According to Wikipedia, the population is almost entirely Christian. One percent are Muslims, and they have apparently entered from neighboring countries.
Given what has happened to other African countries, invaded by Muslims coming down from the North, this would seem to be a smart move.

The media reports have not described why exactly Islam apparently faces a need to be legalized despite its presence in the country for many years. I am normally against having any government being given any authority on legalizing any religion. But if Islam has a track record of political violence in Angola as, say, the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, then it ceases to be a matter of freedom of religion and becomes a matter of national survival.

Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Belgium and the United Kingdom, refuse to grant Scientology religious recognition. (wikipedia)They should do the same with Islam.

Islam's religious trappings need to be confronted and Islam seen for what it is: A socio-political system of control of the individual no different than communism or national socialism.
How about no socialism, no communism and no Islam?
Or better yet, how about banning them and tearing down their buildings.

Angola is a majority-Christian nation of about 16 million people, an estimated 55 percent of whom are Catholic, 25 percent of whom belong to African Christian denominations, 10 percent of whom follow major Protestant traditions, 5 percent of whom belong to Brazilian Evangelical churches and where only between 80,000 and 90,000 people are Muslim, according to the U.S. State Department.

As much as I hold islam in contempt more than any other religion, I’m a bit too devoted to freedom of religion (so long as force isn’t involved) to fully support this.
We don’t have to ban islam, we just have to stop bending over backwards to suck up to it.

Angola became the first country in the world to ban Islam and dismantle mosques in an effort to stem the spread of extremism. Finally, some people have the good sense to call a spade a spade. {Is that racist?}
You have two choices, they are absolutely binary, kill or die.

Unless you kill them then you don’t stem the spread of anything by destroying the mosques. All you do is drive them underground.
