COLUMBUS, Ohio -
A 69-year-old west Columbus man said he defended himself, his partner and his home from robbers.
The attempted robbery occurred at a home on Cascade Court in Columbus at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The Vietnam veteran said a female neighbor came to his home Wednesday afternoon, and behind her were four men, two of whom were armed with guns.
"(They said,) 'We want your money. We're robbing you.' And then all of a sudden they start hitting my partner," he said.
The victim said that one of the men demanded cash. His partner was able to escape from the home and ran to call 911.
At the same time, the 69-year-old man said that one of the suspects came toward him brandishing a gun. That's when, the victim said, he fired two shots at the suspect.
"They turned their gun on me and when they did that I just stood up and shot," he said. "I honestly felt that I would have gotten killed. He would have gotten killed And I wasn't going to let it happen."
Columbus police said one of the gunshots struck the suspect in the neck. Police said another shot struck another suspect in the chest.
"My adrenaline started going. I said, 'Well, it's either kill or be killed.' That's the way I looked at it just like we had to look at it in Vietnam. I had to protect our house," the victim said.

Nice neighborhood where the neighbor brings over 4 guys to rob you.
I wonder if prosecutors will also charge the preps with hate crimes
.......... No race mentioned so it was Amish! Damn good shot that old man!
What a contribution to lowering the crime rate in his neighborhood. He should get an award!
“And then all of a sudden they start hitting my partner,”
He runs a business out of his home?
Two things stand out from this story: first, the 69 year old age is suspiciously close to the other story one. Second, the claim is also that two shots were fired.
Oh, and his (the veteran's) name is not mentioned, which is curious because it would normally be prominently displayed -unless he was one of holder's people. Also a 'partner' is mentioned but his name is not printed either. Hmmm.
He runs a business out of his home?”
yes. And that’s breaking the rules of his Home Owners Assoc. So the Architural Review Committee came over and beat him up.
It is common practice not to mention victim’s names.
The source is at the link.
I am not certain about the “common practice”, since I see names printed all the time (with the previous caveats), however thank you for pointing out the link.
“The other two suspects were not arrested”
WTF, they were standing there when the lady said we are robbing you!
When you have a right to carry license, you always carry the cheap gun, as even in Texas if you use it in self defense it will spend the rest of its life in the Police evidence files.
SO pick a good functional hand gun, and then keep the extra nice stuff in the Gun safe. Or just get 2 of the 1911’s for home defense.

Yes, the common practice is violated quite a bit. Some of it may be if the victim agrees to have his name printed or not. I see quite a few stories that say: “The victim did not want their name published.”
No description of the two on the loose is provided. It might be helpful to police to warn the community about these two and what they look like.
That gave me a mental image of Josey Wales and the four soldiers.
I think whoever wrote this really wanted to say that he was homosexual, which has absolutely no bearing on this situation. It’s a clue when they overuse the word “partner”, in this case, five times in a short article.
But the rest of the story is weird as well. Did he owe the neighbor woman money? Geez this story needs to be fleshed out.

I think it has some bearing. The gays can get away with some things the rest of us cannot because they stick together with the protection of a strong lobby. They don’t shoot their wounded, while the conservatives will attack somebody like George Zimmerman when he is down-and-out and before the facts are known.
Some things, agreed. But there is so little background information in this story that it’s anybody’s guess.
