Ashoura is a bloody Shi'ite Muslim ritual where the men beat themselves to a bloody pulp. The craziness. (WARNING: Graphic Photos and video Remember, this is all taking place inside the United States)
Once again the annual bloody ritual of Ashura is upon us. Muslims flagellate themselves and their children with whips and chains until bloody to commemorate the death of our President's namesake, Hussein. Why is this savagery tolerated in the US, considering that blood borne illnesses could be hazardous and such? But it's more important to adhere to and to respect the sharia and not offend Islam. That is the priority.
Videos at link. The incessant drumbeat in those vids is so reminiscent of They're Coming to Take Me Away HaHa
On Good Friday in the Philippines, the Flagellantes do the same thing, flogging their backs, while others drag large crosses for miles.
Too bad they don’t make that cut about 8 inches lower.
The flogging stuff is pagan... IIRC the Roman Catholic church frowns on it. Cross dragging... if they want to cross drag, fine. Many Christian groups do it. The gospel doesn’t say to do that kind of gratuitous suffering. There’s quite enough suffering simply entailed in striving to do good to an evil world that doesn’t want it. But Phillipines are weird.
Phillipines => Philippines
Having spent 18 months in The Philippines, I’m reasonably certain that it’s One L, Two Ps. They were named for the King of Spain, Felipe, by Magellan’s explorers. Of course, I could be all wet, too.
As Islam was founded by the blade, this spirited ritual shouldn’t be surprising.
>> gratuitous suffering
You said it right there.
In the home country they use swords, big swords, with such abandon it is a wonder some don’t cut their own heads off. Maybe some do. Would they be noticed?
Think so?
The problem as I see it is, not bloody enough.
Thanks Impala64ssa.
Heh, yeah, you’d better. ;’)
Thanks for that graphic and its URL, the fact that it was purged from the original site shows Shariah Prior Restraint in action.
I haven’t Been back to the Philippines in over 50 years. It was my first ever time outside North America, and I’ll always have a special spot in my heart for Filipinos.
