Boeing picks 15 potential sites nationwide to build 777X

Boeing has issued a formal request for proposals (RFP) to 15 locations around the United States that will bid for the work of building its forthcoming 777X jet, according to a source close to the discussions.

Washington state is one of the 15 sites under consideration. The others include both existing Boeing locations and new “greenfield” sites, the source said.

Boeing spokesman Doug Alder confirmed Saturday that the RFPs were sent out late Friday afternoon and into the evening.

The only rail through here carries freight to the DSM plant which was formerly Hoffman La Roche which is down to 300 or so employees. BASF has closed and razed all of their buildings. Very few ratables left in Belvidere. We are like a lot of other small towns, we are dieing. Whether one believes it or not Agenda 21 is real.

I have no idea - a ‘thank you’ for about 60 years of free rent? Some local politician or developer asked them to so that it wouldn’t compete with the the Redbird (now Executive) airport also owned by the city a few miles away?

As I’ve posted elsewhere in the thread. Love Field started it’s life as an Army Air Corps base in World War I. Since it was civilian long before 1947, I’ll concede that it wasn’t an Air Force base.

Carswell is far from mothballed. It is actually very busy.

Thanks for the history. I remember something about Jimmy Dolittle being stationed at Love or another Dallas Army Air Corp field for a short stint.

Yes, Carswell is the old SAC base in Fort Worth that turned into ‘Joint Reserve Base Carswell’ without some of the base housing and perhaps the golf course included in the revised base. They closed NAS Dallas and move the navy functions to the old Air Force Base.

The Grand Prairie Armed Forces Reserve Complex (formerly Naval Air Station Dallas or Hensley Field) is a former United States Navy Naval Air Station located on Mountain Creek Lake in southwest Dallas. The installation was originally established as an Army Aviation center, and eventually became home to aviation assets from all the military services. The facility was decommissioned in December 1998.[1] The base was later recommissioned as it is today as the Grand Prairie Armed Forces Reserve Complex, with the half that housed the aircraft-related facilities (such as the runway, hangars, etc.) going to the Texas Air National Guard, and the half with the bulk of non-aircraft related facilities going to the Army Reserves and small area to Marine Forces Reserve. Vought Aircraft Industries operates a government-owned, contractor-operated (GOCO) plant adjacent to NAS Dallas.

I have a friend that flys Ospreys for the Corps at the base.

I’m really surprised that Oklahoma isn’t on the state list. It’s a right to work state, there’s Altus and Tinker AF bases, low taxes, cheap utilities, excellent educated work force...add to that American Airlines/US Air maintainance faility in Tulsa, and inland port for shipping (Port of Catoosa) and an economy that is really good and the topper...Obama did not carry a single county in the state for two election cycles. We are red.

This is not an Oklahoma Economic Development Corp. advertisement although it should be.

General Dynamics in Dallas? I'm thinking it was either Bell Helicopter or the old LTV. General Dynamics was located in White Settlement adjoining Carswell AFB.

Well, Ohio isn’t Washington either. Nor is it California or the Northeast. Not having RTW isn’t an automatic disqualifier, even if it is likely to be a major factor.

Even at its worst, locating in SW Ohio wouldn’t be a bad thing. More than a few major defense contractors reside here (thanks to WPAFB) and adding Boeing for this kind of work in nearby Wilmington would only complement that effort.

Now if this was during Rhine McLin’s time in Dayton, then I’d definitely agree - she let 125 years of history go to Georgia. If that’s not a large wakeup call, I don’t know what is.

Son works on the F35 Flightline at Lockheed at old GD facility next to Carswell.

Husband & I both worked on the F-16 program and then the canceled A-12 program years ago. We left in ‘92 for Rocket City USA . . . Silicon Valley of the South. :)

SEATTLE (AP) — Boeing on Thursday presented what it called a final counterproposal to the Machinists union in their negotiations to keep much of the work on a new 777X jet in the Puget Sound region, and a company spokesman said union leaders rejected the offer.
