Not for nothing but, we’ve been hearing for years how Israel will attack Iran over the nuclear issue. Yet, nothing happens as Iran continually advances its nuclear capabilities. Makes one think the Israelis aren’t as tough as they were thought to be.
Israel doesn't really have any fear of an attack from Iran. Israel is more than capable of defending itself in a situation like that, and Iran knows this better than anyone else. After the debacles in Iraq and Afghanistan showed how incompetent the U.S. is at waging a military campaign in the region (and how little control the U.S. has over the post-war outcome), Iran probably fears Israel more than Iran fears the U.S.
What's driving Israel here isn't a fear of an attack by Iran. It's an issue of addressing serious problems of an unsettled political and demographic situation at home. Israel's biggest fear is that if a major regional power like Iran rises in that region, many of its most successful residents will pack up and move somewhere else. This is a problem Israel has been dealing with for years, and it would only get worse if things become unsettled in the region.
Or, that they’re withholding their attack until there’s really no other alternative. Stuxnet, targeted assassination (and I’m sure other thjngs) have pushed Irans timetable back. It hasn’t stopped the timetable entirely.
