FIFTY years ago this week President John Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald, a Castro-supporting communist who had learned to shoot straight while in the US Marines. Half a century later, 61% of Americans believe in a conspiracy. Amazingly, this is the lowest level since the late 1960s.
Poster comments: There was no second gunman. There was no conspiracy.
There also was not a herd of pink elephants walking in the Reflecting Pool in DC, but I can't prove there wasn't. See the point?
and 61% of America, including me, are right there with you
Zapruder ‘flinched’ three times as the film rolled. There were three, and only three shots. The “pristine” bullet was flattened and anything but pristine. Oswald was a good shot, most Marines are marksmen if not sharpshooters, and the head shot, as you say, was not that hard to make, especially if you get three tries.
‘Ozzie Rabbit’ was mad at Kennedy over Cuba and he was a job-hopping little prick with an unhappy Russian wife, and he was sore at the world. Ockam’s razor, everybody. Let’s stop encouraging the lefty Olivers: it’s enough we have to give him three names and describe the act as “assassination”. Lee Oswald murdered Jack Kennedy.
So, many of us remember President Kennedy. Kennedy was no Abe Lincoln.
Sorry Camelot man-fans. The rest of us just weren’t that into it and him.
Posing in a bikini in Bermuda -- which is where Edgar Cayce predicted Atlantis would rise.
It’s hopeless. Fools rush in. They talked to policemen in Dallas, they served two presidents and Al Haig, they own 300 books on the subject, they know that MSN lies (don’t you?), etc, etc, therefore they know, therefore there was a conspiracy. Just don’t mention the KGB or Castro. They’re so over-educated they’ll never look at the obvious.
And to me, ignoring the Soviet angle is proof of being a victim of the very MSN propaganda, 300 books or whatever.
My father owned the same type of Carcano (?) (bought it to give my mother a small, light weapon to hunt deer) rifle that Oswald owned and if his rifle was as much a piece of crap as my fathers, he couldn’t hit anything with accuracy.
When shaken, the rifle sounded like a jar full of bolts. Poorly made and not accurate at all without shooting it for hours to get the feel for were in the heck to point it to hit anything.
I am fascinated that Barry Goldwater thought LBJ did it. Barry was a pretty standup guy. I wonder what convinced him?
Amazing isn't it. Even here at FR.
I guess people growing up back then didn't think that there was MSM propaganda.
That’s right. Plenty of people wanted to get rid of JFK.
See post #49.
It’s a Carcano 91/38 carbine.
I can’t find the ad right now because the net is overloaded with Kennedy stuff. The story I read was that Oswald bought the rifle and a scope through a mail order ad for $12.50.
Hmmm. Now that you mention it, Palin was born in February 1964, so her mother would have been pregnant with her in November 1963. I’m sure if you went over to DU/Kos, you could convince at least a couple of those idiots that she masterminded a conspiracy from the womb..
If I remember correctly, Oswald used a POS 6.5 Carcano rifle with a scope that was loose and barely attached. Also, three NRA experts could not recreate the shot. Oswald barely qualified with a rifle when he was in the Marine Corps.
The Bay of Pigs was a disastrous display of Kennedy’s inherent cowardice and invited The soviets to arm Cuba with missiles. To resolve the matter we agreed to remove missile from Greece. JFK was exactly the sort of weakling the soviets would want to keep in power.
Theres just something in the human mind that doesnt want to admit that senseless acts can have profound consequences. I believe this is the motivation behind conspiracy theories. The idea that life can be so inexplicable is too much for many to take. There always has to be a reason.

You have nailed it! Great post!
I haven’t read any of these posts.
But I’ve heard the JFK hype.
You know what?
I don’t give a rusty fudge hammer .
I don’t care.
Go away.
This has no relevance to today’s world. None.
Shut about it already.
Shut up.
I agree. Oswald did it. Although, he definitely hated this country (I don’t think there is any place on earth where he would have been happy), I think he did it mostly because he wanted the notoriety and to feel important. That is what his brother, Robert, thought. He knew him better than anyone else. Granted, there is a lot of other stuff associated with this case that is strange. If there was any conspiracy, it was government bureaucrats destroying evidence in “CYA” mode. This happened to Oswald’s file at the FBI office in Dallas.
You’ve been here since 2001 but don’t know to ping individuals when you talk about them?
I’m a pretty incredible shot as is my brother and we both have doubts we could have made three excellent shots like that.
Further, we’ve shot plenty of game in the head and their head travels the direction of the bullet.
“Back and to the Left...”. No Way Oswald made that shot.
