Veteran House Democratic aides are sick over the insurance prices theyll pay under Obamacare, and theyre scrambling to find a cure.
In a shock to the system, the older staff in my office (folks over 59) have now found out their personal health insurance costs (even with the government contribution) have gone up 3-4 times what they were paying before, Minh Ta, chief of staff to Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Wis.), wrote to fellow Democratic chiefs of staff in an email message obtained by POLITICO. Simply unacceptable.
In the email, Ta noted that older congressional staffs may leave their jobs because of the change to their health insurance.
Under the Affordable Care Act, and federal regulations, many congressional staffers designated as official aides were forced to move out of the old heavily subsidized Federal Employees Health Benefits program and into the District of Columbias health insurance marketplace exchange. Others designated as unofficial were allowed to stay in the FEHB program. Managers had to choose whether aides were official or unofficial by Oct. 31, and Ta said that wasnt enough time to make an informed decision about who would benefit and who would lose out by going into the new system.
Moores office was one of those in which all staff were designated as official and pushed into the exchanges. That ended up being a problem for older staff, who werent accustomed to paying higher premiums because of their age.
But age is one of the few factors insurers can use to adjust prices under Obamacare and older people will often pay much more than younger people.

Exactly, Wolfie. Just look at who really benefits from obamacare: insurance companies and the usual suspects: the lawyers, who will enjoy years, perhaps decades, of healthcare lawsuits.
People getting bleeped.
Theyll pay under Obamacare, and theyre scrambling to find a cure.
Eagle hints mouse guess who wins.
Gwen Moore ping!
That is why you will all be out of jobs come Jan 2015
Oh cry me a river...... friggin morons.
Damn, that was a fine read.
[Ta noted that older congressional staffs may leave their jobs because of the change to their health insurance.]
Time again for the huge manatee.
They need to be angry at the Dem they work for who voted for ObamaCare.
Thanks Jean. Gwen Moore, Milwaukee Rep) mentioned in this article. Her staff can’t afford Obamacare.
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
“In the email, Ta noted that older congressional staffs may leave their jobs because of the change to their health insurance.”
Well, that’s SOME consolation for all of this 0bamacare stupidity!
However, they’ll just switch to Medicare and we’re STILL on the hook for these lifers!
Hey, but after the first 500, any additional condoms are covered!
Exactly.
“In the email, Ta noted that older congressional staffs may leave their jobs because of the change to their health insurance. “
My heart bleeds. they’ll have to make a go of it in the private sector now.
It doesn’t matter. These idiots will still blame it on the Republicans and the ‘insurance companies’. Just watch. They really are mindless.
How dang stupid can one be not to know what socialism does to economies and freedom? Older aides? Senile aides like Senator McStupid? Are they foreigners? We may be better off putting three year olds in power. They have yet to be brainwashed by the politically correct socialist citizens of the world.
1. Yes, "official" Congressional aides are subject to Obamacare.
2. However, Obama's OMB is subsidizing their healthcare costs to the tune of 75%.
3. Yet, the prices for comparable coverage are 3-to-4 times what their previous plan cost.
Only two conclusions are possible:
First, the so-called Obamacare "Gold" plans must be extraordinarily expensive if they are still 3-to-4 times more expensive after a 75% subsidy.
Or, second, their previous government plan must've been ridiculously inexpensive for it to be 1/3 to 1/4 the cost after a 75% subsidy.
In either event, it's difficult to work up a lot of sympathy for these flunkies.
Agreed. In Massachusetts, the overall cost (employee & employer) of a family plan for municipal governments runs $24K a year, and rising. The rest of the nation should brace themselves.
