A teen playing the "Knockout Game" in Lansing, Michigan unwittingly targeted a concealed carry permit holder and was shot twice. He survived and is now in jail.

Most everyone is a racist. Trying to prove your not, is racist.
It’s an epithet that they know gets to some white people.
And that’s all they have, nothing else works like most
epithets work on the minorities. Don’t let them enslave you
with type. Just ask anyone who calls you a racist to prove
they are not. Their attempt is evidence they are.
I am convinced it is mainly about where the bullet strikes, one little .22 between the eyes is about as close to a guaranteed one shot kill as there is but some people survive being shot in the head. I have seen the scars on one vietnam vet who in his own words was, “almost cut in two” but lived and showed no signs of being hurt other than when he pulled up his shirt and you could see a line of scars where a number of rounds went all the way through him from belly to back. By some incredible luck none of them hit his spine or anything else that couldn’t be sewed up. He was on full disability and I for one don’t begrudge a penny of it but you would never have known he had been in a war if he did not tell you. He was actually very strong physically, flexible, able to run and move around as if he had spent the war in a gym instead of Vietnam.
On the other hand I have read a report of one man, killed in his office by a pro hitman, who died almost instantly as the result of one .22 round in his left side, the report I read said that he would have had a minor wound if he had been shot the same way with a .45 because it would have gone on through the outer edge of the rib cage. The .22LR rimfire round went into the rib cage, bounced off the rib in back rather than going through and bounced around inside his rib cage chewing up his vital organs. He was said to have bled out internally in a few seconds. Yet I used to shoot squirrels with a .22 and many times a .22LR round failed to stop a squirrel at once. A shotgun with little no. 6 shot seemed to stop them more reliably.
One man I knew and worked with briefly was found sitting dead in his own car in a cemetery in South Carolina. Apparently he was in the passenger seat of his car and it appeared that two men had taken him to the spot, one driving and one sitting behind him in the rear seat, then the one in the back shot him in the head with a .22.
If I had to defend myself at a short range, I would prefer to use my pump twelve gauge and buck shot but I have known someone who took a couple of buckshot loads and survived that as well.

Sometimes it is hard (these days) to not put yourself into situations where you need to keep that head of yours on a swivle...
You just have to do the best you can, to make adjustments (unpredictabilities) to your routine, or plan out your outings like you would a patrol in a combat zone...
Trouble these days comes looking for you, it is no longer a situation where you put yourself in those conditions...
It will take more incidents like this, and over the Holiday season coming up, to curb the enthusiams and settle the bordem factor with certain demographics to discover that their earthly existance is dependent upon their ability to pacify that bordom with worthwhile and longevity increasing activities...
Otherwise, there is amovement of people out there that will deal with this problem in ways that no one will be happy with...
What scares me, I was in New Haven [on another street] when this attack went down. I was with my GD, we were attending a presentation of the Gettysburg Address at the NH Historical Society.
The crowd we were mingling with, were 80 y/o somethings...you could tell they were all Volvo-driving Obama voters who were bird watchers and Yale or Smith grads. ;(

How this ever got past the “Hate Crimes” board, we’ll never know...
I thought that “hate” crimes were only purported against black people, not the other way around...
I bet this gets watered down to almost nothing as time wears on...
