I Visited Ty Wood's Grave Today

I visited Ty Wood's grave site today. It's not the first time I have been there but it is the first time I have taken a photo.

I am at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery often and I do not plan to let this brave man's death be forgotten.

Did they tear down the Cross there? Or did we win that one?

I believe that is still being litigated. The cross remains.

Yes, he would have been trained at Naval Amphibious Base Imperial Beach.

A lot of the names of those bases have changed over the years and IB is right next to the silver strand.

My last time at the Amphib Base Coronado was last March when we escorted the memorial for Seal Matthew Leathers from there to Ft. Rosecrans for military honors. Leathers disappeared while training off the coast of Hawaii. The pic above was from that mission. Seals do things differently. It is always an honor to be present and see what they do when they lose one of their own. Very impressive and a deserving tribute.

I heard that 60% of Seals killed are killed during training. That is an incredible statistic if true.

They get beat up pretty bad out there, but I don’t recall deaths.

They love to have those guys go out there when the water is bone cold and haul around telephone pole in the surf all day.

Most men would just quit and find another billet.

Or at least that is the way it used to be.

Matthew Leathers disappeared on an 8-mile open water swim off the coast of Oahu. He just disappeared, was never found and they believe a shark took him. Sad way for a proud warrior to go.

The Memorial Day dedication at Mt. Soledad was attended by many including liberals. There was an audible gasp when Mrs. Woods said what she said. I think it can even be heard on the video.
