I have no tattoos, no piercings, no weird clothes, no long hair, no felonies or misdemeanors, no swagger or attitude, I don’t swear, smoke, do drugs or drink, yetTHE COPS ROBBED ME OF MY CASH ON THE STREET.

It can happen to you if it happened to me.

Watch out for cops, I sure wish it didn’t have to be that way.

I used to support the cops but some cops are criminals.

When Kevin Trudeau gets out of prison again, he will plagiarize this and call it “Tricks to stay out of prison: What they don’t want you to know”

I think one of the best pieces of advice, within the article if it’s the same article that I’ve read before, is to just not antagonize the cop. He’s in the stronger position of inconveniencing you, if you become unnecessarily argumentative.

Anything that he does write you up for can be challenged in court later. There is nothing to gain from getting mouthy right there.

“If crying fails, and you’re willing to do whatever it takes to not go to jail, Carson advises you to “foul yourself so that the police will consider setting you free in order not to get their cruiser nasty.” Vomit on your clothes. Defecate and urinate in your pants. Then let the officers know what you’ve done. If they arrest you anyway, you’ll get cleaned and reclothed at the jail.”

At this point I think a real problem cop is just going to make it all the worse for you. And getting cleaned and reclothed at the jail doesn’t sound like an exact cup of tea in exchange for the possibility that you might have been released if only you could work up a deuce before he puts you in the cruiser. Maybe that’s just me.

Always, always inspect a rental before driving off the lot.
Trunk, under the spare, glove box, under and between the seats. I’ve found empty beer bottles under the seat. For starters.

Even if they can’t get you for drinking they can get you for open container (ticket). And since you’re from out of town you’ll probably pay.

My main concern is always the possibility of illicit drug residue.

"The best advice is in the comments, don’t let an officer search your car. "

So, you say "no", and they they tow your car to search at the police station. You haven't won anything.

The recent body cavity search w/ two enemas and surgical colonic searching of an individual who “failed to signal his turn in traffic”... should give fwdude something to think about. Probable cause has much less meaning these days and if you match the many written laws, there will always be something you are doing illegally (this is the goal of the Statists, and marxists— the sheer weight of illegality for everyday behaviour). My main concern is always the possibility of illicit drug residue.

An ex-LEO - retired but still part of the club - told me about the amount of drug residue to be found on a lot of currency, and when I asked about the possibility of this eventually getting on my wallet, he chuckled but then got thoughtful...

Anyway, when I heard about the Deming, NM drug warriors awarding free enemas to people because some semi-trained mutt thought the driver's seat was a hit, that conversation came to mind.

From the article:

Don't drive perfectly, or too slow. Don't slouch or put too much heavy stuff in your trunk, causing your car to ride low.

Even the popo says your theory is crap.

I heard that something like 70% of US currency tests positive for some drug or other.

The cash they stole from me was just what was in my wallet — pretty aggravating, all the same. If it had been some huge, drug-related sum I could understand, maybe, but casually robbing citizens over the course of a routine Terry stop seems totally amazing to me.

Maybe most cops are good..?

I sure would like to think so...

Years ago my mom was driving north from Florida after spending the winter there. Mom was probably about 80, and my sister was 55 or so. The cops pulled her old Cadillac Eldorado over with FL plates as it “fit the profile” for drug runners.

For over an hour they had them out on the side of the road going through all of the car, suitcases, etc.
