Obama supports Senate rule change to curb filibusters (What if they nuked the Constitution, Daddy? )

US President Barack Obama has supported a motion passed by Senate Democrats which weakens Republicans' ability to block White House nominations.

The measure, known as the "nuclear option", curbs the power of the upper chamber's minority party to use a blocking tactic known as a filibuster.

Mr Obama said the practice had gone too far, and was "not normal".

Republicans vowed they would use the new rule against Democrats if they won back the Senate in the next election.

Correspondents said Thursday's motion, which passed 52-48, will make American politics even more acrimonious. 'Power grab'

At the White House on Thursday, Mr Obama conceded that neither party had been blameless in filibusters.

But he said it was unacceptable that nearly 30 of his nominees had been targeted using the tactic since he took office.

The US leader called it an "unprecedented pattern of obstruction in Congress" to block qualified candidates.

"What is happening now is a rare change to the Senate rules, the consequences of which for the Senate, this president, the presidency and the future remain very uncertain," writes Talking Points Memo's David Kurtz.

Michael Needham, head of the conservative activist group Heritage Action, said: "For Harry Reid and President Obama, this is not about a couple of circuit court judges; this is an attempt to remake America to reflect their unworkable and unpopular progressive vision."

"If you think Republicans wouldn't have changed the rule to benefit themselves at the first chance they got - no matter what Democrats did - then you haven't been paying attention," writes Paul Waldman of the American Prospect.

"My suggestion to Republicans is to move on and, unfortunately, return the 'favor' when they are in power," writes Jennifer Rubin of the Washington Post. "Republicans are not blameless in this."

The Dem’s are betting that if they impose the right set of structural changes now, they’ll never be out of power again.

The three victims , the latest anyway, of an oppressive Republican party..

Robert Wilkins (left), Nina Pillard (centre-left) and Patricia Millet (right) were nominated for judicial positions in June; Republicans have blocked all three

To be fair, the filibuster is not constitutional. The Senate makes its rules by simple majority, and these rules tend to be long lasting. The House makes its rules for the passage of each bill.

“OK, here's the deal with my nuclear option thingy:

Because my buddy Barack's transformation of America isn't moving at the rate Mr. Soros, David Axlerod, Valerie Jarrett and his other handlers anticipated, we simply MUST pack the agencies and courts with more dedicated Marxists and libturds before BO's term is up. And although BO's agency heads will be removed should, allah forbid it, the pubbies take the WH in 2016, they will have had 3 years to bring in so many fellow libturds that a new administration will not be able to clean them all out.

But the courts – especially here in DC – are where the REAL action is! Dontcha just love that LIFETIME TENURE thing? We sure as hell do!

Oh...the finger?

Just my way of telling you Tea Party people that if you don't like it...suck on this!!

ROFLMAO!!!”

Most DISrespectfully, Harry “The Grinning Weasel” Reid

Republicans should use this as a community organizing issue. leading up to the 2014 mid-terms, right along with the Obamacare repeal.

Obama and Harry Reid are trying to pack the courts, Republicans need to pack the Senate and take the power away from Reid and Obama.

Pump 85 billion a day into the money supply and you will indeed see prices go up in the stock market. Money kept under your mattress loses value to inflation. Money in the stock market derives its value from the businesses owned, which may be either helped, hurt, or passed by by the increase in the money supply, but if passed by the stock price would go up as the value of the dollar decreased.

Eventually all that money will try to buy something as people get used to perpetual inflation, as the Weimar economy adjusted to it. One fellow borrowed money, hired workers, rented factories, and produced products, which sold for thousands of times what he paid to produce them, so that a single item would repay his investment. He died about the time that inflation was stopped by the Weimar Republic. So long as your assets are not hard denominated in currency, you can adjust to high inflation rates.
