Several schools in Decatur, Morgan County and Limestone County are dismissing due to a suspicious situation at the Daikin facility on Highway 20.
Police say a suspicious device was found attached to a rail car at the facility. The rail car contains hazardous material. No other information about the train car involved or the nature of the device was immediately available.
Police say the estimated potential danger zone is 25 miles. Current weather conditions indicate that the greatest danger area would be to the northeast should an explosion occur. The intersection of State Docks Road and Highway 20 West can be used as a reference point.
Thanks for the info in case she ever works there . . . yep ChemE . . . for now she is going co-op next summer at Eastman over in Anniston. She is worried about crime over there. I may have to go live with her this summer . . . and abandon husband and son for a couple of months since she isn’t old enough for a CCR yet. :)
Highway 20 being closed. Bomb squad is moving in to try to remove suspicious package from rail car.

Bad stuff.
Yep, that's a hazardous material all right. It's one of the nastiest substances out there. It's the only thing I know of that eats through glass. If you get it on your skin, it soaks right through and works its way to the bone (which it dissolves). You won't feel any major discomfort, and then suddenly you drop dead.
Highway 20 is being closed (major artery for industrial traffic across N Alabama from the Shoals to Decatur)... heard off-camera via the Live stream linked above. Awaiting the word on extent of the closure...between Woodall and the Beltline.
WAFF also mentioned that the FBI is in the house.

Well, h3ll, when are they NOT these days?
Daikin expands a wide area. Part of the facility extends across SR-20, but that’s not where the rail line is.

not sounding good. They (police) are saying now is the time to go. Lines are asking where to? Dang ... more prayers this is a test.
EMA says tornado sirens will sound if an emergency evacuation is needed.
Right - the rail line extends to the river area near where I put the dot on the map.... pretty much right smack in the middle of our industrial universe.

Indeed it is.
crap ... dispatch call Birmingham ... Answer Birmingham.
Seems like if you wait for tornado sirens to sound, it’s going to be mass confusion trying to evacuate
Are you in earshot of EMA sirens?
That rail line is about 500 ft north of the main gate. The building just south of the main gate contains the administrative offices. And the parking lot just south of that is the employee lot.
Not very well on this side of town. We don’t have enough in the area TBH.
Via WHNT: the Higghway closure expanded:
“From Decatur Police: Highway 20 now closed from hwy 67 to Lawrence Co. line. Coast Guard has closed
river traffic from Mallard Fox Industrial Park to the Highway 31 river bridge.”
(that’s about 10 miles)
