Several schools in Decatur, Morgan County and Limestone County are dismissing due to a suspicious situation at the Daikin facility on Highway 20.
Police say a suspicious device was found attached to a rail car at the facility. The rail car contains hazardous material. No other information about the train car involved or the nature of the device was immediately available.
Police say the estimated potential danger zone is 25 miles. Current weather conditions indicate that the greatest danger area would be to the northeast should an explosion occur. The intersection of State Docks Road and Highway 20 West can be used as a reference point.
Blue Springs Elementary dismissing immediately will be transported to Cedar Hill Elementary

It would help if you mentioned what State this relates to.
Alabama? Georgia? There are plenty of Decaturs.
Thanks.
Surely someone knows what is in the rail car, and yet they don’t bother to say. Hazardous material covers a lot of ground. Just how hazardous?
This is N. Alabama territory.
Daikin is a Japanes auto supplier.
Excuse but damn!

OMGosh. This is one of the companies that offered my daughter a position after co-op interview day last month @ Auburn for next Fall semester. Although I’m almost 50 miles away, I don’t have the local channels on so switching now to hear what they are saying.
19 is just scrolling on bottom of screen, same for 31 & 48, nothing on 54.
Please keep us informed and if link available ... please post it, please.
I have lots of family in Decatur, AL. Prayers up for a quick and safe resolution.
I will keep checking. Per al.com . . .
Lt. John Crouch said police, Decatur firefighters, the Huntsville bomb squad and the FBI are on the scene at the plant at Alabama Highway 20.
Alabama. I put it in the keywords...
WHNT, channel 19, now scrolling they have a crew headed to location and to check their media sites for updates.
All updates appreciated.
They must be relocating some of the students, not sure which school, to the Moulton Civic Center.
They say the area on the rail car where the device is attached, that a robot can’t get to it, and an officer will have to do it. Not much else for details. No where the rail car came from or where it was headed from here.
It’s a shame they can’t just tell us what is in the rail car. Here is what the plant makes...
Daikin America is one of the largest fluoropolymer suppliers in the world. It provides molding resins, aqueous dispersions and fluoroelastomers for various applications. It serves clients in the United States, Europe and Japan. The company also offers unidyne oil and grease repellents. Daikin America provides services for the automobile, aerospace, paper, textile and carpet industries. It operates a subsidiary, the Daikin Institute of Advanced Chemistry and Technology, which focuses on applications based on surface modifications. It has a manufacturing plant in Decatur in Alabama.
Parents have until 11:00 to pick up students, which is NOW, after that then they’ll be taken to the Moulton Civic Center. Not sure how far away that is but towards Florence . . . west of Decatur.
Any chance of moving the rail car to a remote location?
