I am guessing, as a child, Piers Morgan would frequently get beat up for his lunch money by bullies. Then, after school, he would try to make friends with those same bullies by buying them ice cream.

You see, they’re not really in it for the ideology,
they’re in it for the self-righteousness.
They can think of themselves as “good people” because they support policies that they believe are intended to help people.
