Ryan: No need to worry about another shutdown
The Hill ^ | Nov. 19, 2013 | Eric Wasson

House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said Tuesday that the country doesn’t need to worry about another government shutdown in January when the current stopgap spending bill runs out.

The government shutdown lasted for 16 days in October, after Republicans demanded that President Obama defund his signature healthcare law.

To avoid another shutdown, Ryan said either he and Senate Budget Committee Chairwoman Patty Murray (D-Wash.) would strike a budget deal or Congress would pass a stopgap keeping existing spending levels.

“Either of those two scenarios will prevail, and we will not have a government shutdown,” he said at the Wall Street Journal annual CEO Council. “We will keep the government funding at the current level if need be.”

The Democrats want a shutdown to take the focus off Obamacare

A lot of people here on this thread seem to want the same thing as the Democrats.

But why would you want a shutdown when we are winning by focusing on Obamacare?

“they will seek anything they want only to have the GOP say no”

Let’s face it. America wants free stuff from the govt. and they will vote out anyone who does not give it to them.

Next up for the democrats, a hike in the minimum wage, a one time payment to people with a new born kid, and everyone gets a pony for christmas.

I want to see all the tea party conservatives stand up and say “I am against raising the wages of the working poor”, “I am against a one time payment for new born kids”, “I am against a pony for christmas”.

True. The rats are in a foaming tizzy accusing the GOP of rooting for Obamacare repeal while they root for another shutdown to blame on republicans.

Too bad, so sad, won't work.

Somehow, the thought of the (supposedly) smartest
man in the U.S. House of Representatives consorting
with the (genuinely) dumbest broad in the U.S. Senate
doesn’t give me a lot of confidence.
Yeah..teaming-up w/ "COW" Patty Murray ('Rat-Wash.)..
Does NOT inspire confidence

Agree; Democrats win by offering free stuff.

Unfortunately, this may not come crashing down until countries and people stop buying our debt. Since (as bad as we are economically) we are still better off and a better investment than 95% of the rest of the world, it could take a while.

As long as there is a disconnect with the masses and LIV (low info voter) between our future and $17 Trillion in debt; hard for things to change....unless you try to take over healthcare and totally screw it up.

We have to seize this opportunity.

Paul Ryan is as exciting as melba toast.

If the man gets bitch-slapped by Joe Biden, he isn’t worthy of consideration for a national ticket.

Man oh man, if Ryan had a smart PR plan - he could have positioned this in such a way that:

"the Republicans tried to stop the disaster known as ObamaCare and instead, the Democrats and this President decided to shut the government down rather than save the American people the problems that they are now experiencing with their health care coverage. Now that there is evidence that this administration lied about the roll out and the Republican's have been proven 100% correct, we will work to ensure the American public is not fooled again by this administration and their enablers in the media.

Why the hell wouldnt they take advantage of the positive situation they find themselves in?

Nope. They are gonna let this slide. Obama is imploding over his health care mess, and they are gonna do nothing to get in the way or allow him to change the subject.

Smart politics, though it will leave us several trillions of dollars further in debt.

This man is no different than harry reid, nancy piglosi or obama himself. He is a big government progressive that loves mexicans and wants illegals to be made citizens and he wants to financially bleed the working people of this country to death.

What a wimp Ryan turned out to be, once with so much promise, he’s just another RINO.

Yeah, and why in the hell don’t they defend themselves? Why don’t they shoot back that it’s up to the president, that he was the one that shut the government down last time?

These current republicans know how to really irk me, and Paul is one of the one’s I prefer!

Patty Murray is a dumb, empty vessel and one of the bummer family’s closest senator pals.

She will be the sock puppet for whatever issues from the purple-lipped Marxist.

Sellout Ryan could even carry WI for Romney; oh, well, Romney couldn’t even carry MI and MA for himself. Even Nixon won CA in 1968, actually all three times.

Exactly - they did their calculations and decided that another shutdown would not be a political gain. Strategy is necessary, not just tactics.

Being young enough to be Biden’s son, Ryan wanted to appear deferential to the older man. Didn’t work
