House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said Tuesday that the country doesnt need to worry about another government shutdown in January when the current stopgap spending bill runs out.
The government shutdown lasted for 16 days in October, after Republicans demanded that President Obama defund his signature healthcare law.
To avoid another shutdown, Ryan said either he and Senate Budget Committee Chairwoman Patty Murray (D-Wash.) would strike a budget deal or Congress would pass a stopgap keeping existing spending levels.
Either of those two scenarios will prevail, and we will not have a government shutdown, he said at the Wall Street Journal annual CEO Council. We will keep the government funding at the current level if need be.

Another Sell Out!
Mr RINO has no problem spending OPM.
The Democrats want a shutdown to take the focus off Obamacare. Watch for them to try something to force a shutdown and then they and their media friends blame the Republicans.
Somehow, the thought of the (supposedly) smartest man in the U.S. House of Representatives consorting with the (genuinely) dumbest broad in the U.S. Senate doesn’t give me a lot of confidence.
Yeah, he’s working with Patty Murray to eliminate the sequester cuts. The democrats are desperate to not have that sequester. Why?? Because it actually cuts spending and they want to raise taxes.
With the sequester cuts, the budget is on the way to balance itself. But with a balanced budget, there can be no fear-mongering, no debt-ceiling increases, etc. So they want to keep the deficits, the debt and thus American enslavement to its creditors, going.
So a major fail.
BTW :Obamacare bad news wasnt reported till the shutdown ended as it was the major crisis story, then after that all hell broke loose.
Let dems continue to drown.
Avoid a shutdown is not bad strategy, but taking options off the table so early has constantly plagued this ‘leadership’ team. What a bunch of failures.
Sure, let them know we have absolutely no leverage before the negotiations even start.
If he thinks that the Democrats will accept a CR at current levels, he is dead wrong. This is their opportunity to change the story line away from Obamacare back to the big bad GOP shutting down the government meme.
They know shutdowns hurts the GOP, so they will seek higher expenditures, they will seek anything they want only to have the GOP say no, and they will let it shut down, blaming the GOP. And get away with it.
Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, again.
I agree. I think this is to keep the focus on the failures of the President and Dems. a shutdown will get blamed on GOP house. Not saying it’s a great strategy, but, I do understand if it is the strategy.
Off we go towards unlimited spending and socialism.
Yep. A basic rule that the GOP often ignores is this one: Do not do what your enemy wants you to do.
Obama would just love another shutdown now. Therefore, do not shut down the government now. There will be better opportunities later.
I wasn’t worried the first time.
Ditto!
Why doesn’t anyone make a point that if there were a budget... that is, if the Obama administration was doing it’s job, there would be no need for CRs or the threat of a shutdown?
Ryan always had the stink of the GOPe surrounding him, even as he presented himself as a “fresh thinker.” He and Cantor tried to present themselves as “young guns” but in reality they were nothing more than fresh faces hinding typical GOP deceit.
wimps, cowards and gutless wonders. need to be dragged into the streat and horse whipped.
Agree!
Let Dems continue to drown for while.
How can anyone be sorry he’s not VP?
