CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: Senator, when Obamacare was at issue, a month ago, when it came to a continuing resolution to funding the government you supported a filibuster of other Senators, who demanded that you had to have a change or the abolition of Obamacare as a condition for funding the government. In retrospect do you think that was a good strategy? But even more importantly --looking ahead, the deadlines are coming up, the resolution's going to run out, we're going to hit the debt ceiling soon -- would you be prepared to use same tactic as we approach the new deadlines? SEN. RAND PAUL (R-KY): Well, I said throughout the whole battle that shutting down the government was a dumb idea. Even though it did appear as if I was participating in it, I said it was a dumb idea. And the reason I voted for it, though, is that it's a conundrum. Here's the conundrum. We have a $17 trillion debt and people at home tell me you can't give the president a blank check. We just can't keep raising the debt ceiling without conditions. So unconditionally raising the debt ceiling, nobody at home wants me to vote for that and I can't vote for that. But the conundrum is if I don't we do approach these deadlines. So there is an impasse. In 2011, though, we had this impasse and the president did negotiate. We got the sequester. If we were to extend the sequester from discretionary spending to all the entitlements we would actually fix our problem within a few years.

He was agin it befer he was fer it.
He’s gone RINO. He has decided to join the losers.
“what a backstabber”
Huh? Do you know anyone who was in favor of the shutdown?
well just d@##. This is disappointing to hear.
Ted Cruz is certainly clearer. He says he was not for the shutdown because he was for funding all parts of the government except Obamacare. Not sure how much clearer anyone can make the GOP position.
Looks like Rand has moved from Tea Party to GOPe.
Sad.
Yeah, me and about everybody else on this board except you.
Do they threaten these guys? Threaten their children? How does this stuff happen again and again? There is ZERO doubt Rand Paul knows the score and knows what we are up against.
It’s really disappointing that so many of our workhorses aren’t solidly behind Cruz. Wonder why? Why did Cuccinelli distance himself from Ted?
It would require a 25% spending cut to balance the federal budget (assuming that a tax increase wouldn’t wouldn’t work because it wouldn’t increase revenue). Now I have to assume that Rand Paul would consider that an even dumber idea.
Let me see now........he was for it before he was against it.......
These guys are witnessing the single biggest opportunity to win the favor of the American public since Reagan, and instead of pointing out constantly and consistently the evils of Bambicare and the progressive totalitarian philosophy, they fumble around like buffoons trying to ingratiate themselves with the DNC media.
Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
And of course you realize that it was Harry Reid who actually shut down the government and not Cruz and Lee...right?
But, far be it from Rand to step up and accept the accolades.
Him and his naturally curly hair.
“many of our workhorses arent solidly behind Cruz”
Cruz always said he was against the shutdown. He joined rallies to reopen the Washington monuments, etc.. You have been misinformed about his position.
Incorrect. It put us firmly on the side of being Anti-Obamacare and the Dems for it.
And in the coming year, you will see why that is so important.
“And of course you realize that it was Harry Reid who actually shut down the government and not Cruz and Lee...right?”
Exactly. And you are in favor of the shutdown, defend what they did, called Rand a backstabber, etc..
We’ve got the Democrats on the ropes and what does Rand do?
He changes the focus back to Republicans cutting entitlements. Rand Paul and Paul Ryan are the best election strategists that the democrats have.
