Dispute Over Gay Marriage Erupts in Cheney Family
NY Times ^ | November 17, 2013 | Jonathan Martin

They were the towheaded sisters who tagged along on campaigns, polite and smiling, as their father rose through Wyoming and then Washington politics to become one of the most powerful men in the country.

“We were as close as sisters can be,” recalled Mary Cheney of her relationship with her older sister, Liz.

But now, a feud between the two has spilled into public view, involving social media, an angry same-sex spouse, a high-profile election and a father who feels uncomfortably caught between his two children.

The idea that we all have to accept everything about one another is absurd. Why on earth is it earth shattering to hear siblings disagree with each other, as if that means they hate each other? Why should Liz have to say she’s for something if she’s not. To me, she’s far more brave than her sister. Anyone who does not support the gay agenda is far more brave these days than anyone being praised for their bravery in coming out.

The bond between these two sisters is a powerful one and Liz will cave in time

I have some siblings with which I have a close bond. However, they take many anti-conservative stances which I have never agreed with. It's hard but you have to endure.

I don't "cave". I press on because I believe in truth. Liz shows character in disagreeing with her sister and father.

Unfortunately in the meantime many young people are being caught up in this lifestyle choice, as a form of rebellion or an attempt to create an identity for themselves apart from the mainstream.

Yep. Kind of like the tattoo culture (though way more serious). A lot of people got tattoos as a way to rebel; now that they are older they are sorry they did such a stupid thing.

The inevitable mainstreaming of this de-humanizing lifestyle choice will eventually mean that it will loose its popularity as a way of being “different.”

I agree with this. My guess is that there will be several high-profile scandals involving gays that will absolutely disgust the public. From that point on the movement is dead.

Liz Cheney is pro-gay marriage and has been for years.

Liz Cheney has been pushing gay marriage, and homosexualizing the military for years, she supports the state department gay marriage actions, she opposed DOMA and a constitutional amendment, she has never, during all of her years of politics and TV appearances, including joining the Romney campaign in 2008, ever voiced a pro-life position, until this campaign.

Suddenly, to hide years of Liz advocating for gay marriage, suddenly the Cheneys have their first public feud, getting out the news that they are fighting over gay marriage because Liz is against it.

This Romney campaigning 101.

Unlike Enzi, the 46-year-old daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney supports the right for states to legalize gay marriage. At least that’s what she said in 2009, in an interview with MSNBC, of all places. At that was a time when the notion of same-sex marriage had considerably less support.

And that has even Daily Kos writer Scott Welch offering at least limited praise for Liz Cheney. Cheney, Welch writes:

“”Well, look I think, you know, my family has been very clear about this, that we think freedom means freedom for everybody and that this is an issue that states have to decide for themselves.””

“”She went on to reiterate opposition to a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, expressed support for the State Department’s extension of benefits to same-sex couples, and said, ‘I think it’s wrong to discriminate, in those relationships, based on someone’s sexual preference.’ Additionally, she supported repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.””

Does Cheney want to “marry” his new heart?

Can’t have it. Can’t let these people breed and raise kids as if they were normL. It will destroy our western culture and create a vacuum that will be filled by sharia law or some such 5th century nonsense.

Let them cavort in private but legitimizing it will destroy our society.
How exactly do you propose putting that genie back in its bottle?

I agree with everything you say IF LIZ IS BEING HONEST WITH LIZ AND HER CONSTITUENTS. I suspect she is not.

I wish I were wrong but I don’t think I am. I wish that because we do need, and Wyoming needs, another strong conservative in the Senate to help clean up lots of messes. Probably where I am coming from is so many politicians run as white horses and turn into Zebras the day after election.

They decriminalized adultery and fornication, and we are experiencing the natural fallout of that.

That isn't true, she doesn't disagree with her family and she shows that she is a liar with no character.

No wonder you ignored post 24.

She is all for the perverts. I’d never vote for her. Enzi is better but why can’t Wyoming do better and elect a solid conservative?

I oppose having royal families in the USA and having any Bush, Cheney, Clinton, Kennedy, etc offspring or spouse running for office. One family member should preclude another from running or being appointed to high government office. It’s just the way I feel and vote. She’d never get my vote. Nepotism always leads to corruption
