A man in camouflage who alarmed Madison neighbors when he walked down a street with an uncased shotgun Saturday morning turned out to be a hunter thwarted by city parking.
The Madison Police Department said in a statement that the man, a University of Wisconsin student, had been hunting outside the city and was unable to find parking close to his residence. He decided to walk home from his parked vehicle with an uncased shotgun, police said.

There's regular Wisconsin and then there's Madison, Wisconsin. Good grief, a hunter with a gun in Wisconsin in November. Everybody panic!

There's regular Wisconsin and then there's Madison, Wisconsin. Never been there, but I've heard Madison described as "85 square miles of city surrounded by reality."

That’s a very accurate description of the city.

In urban or suburban California he’d be shot on sight and go to prison if he survived.

A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks.

What did he do, carry a cannon around?
Ball games are violent... WIMP
Of course this might be partly tongue in cheek.

When I was a kid growing up in a small town we walked to school carrying our .22 rifles and kept them in the school lockers during the day.
After school we walked with the rifles about 2 miles down the town’s two main streets to the riverside open landfill dump to shoot rats for target practice.
Then we walked home with the rifles several miles back the way we came.
No one ever gave us a second glance in the school or on the streets.
Today that state has some of the most foolish gun-fearing-wussie laws in the country.

I doubt it was tongue in cheek. Going for a walk in those days didn’t necessarily mean a stroll down a sidewalk. There were also animals and thieves to contend with.

I guess then he was talking about walking, and the gun for security. Walking is not a bad exercise. Your comments helped me figure out the context.

The leftists have succeeded in making the folks fearful of guns in the hands of normal, non-violent people.

Walking on a farm can be quite a workout. Carrying a gun is for security but also you have to think before you shoot. It engages the mind and the body.

Funny you said that a kid just walked by my house with a 22 rifle over his shoulder.
