I never heard anything about that, so I looked it up. You are right. And Wahlberg didn't beat up just one person, over time he beat up many people.
But now he's got his life together. He is now a wonderful person, and he says wonderful things. But there is one small problem. He hurt some people really, really bad. I'm sure those people are in pain to this day.
You have to ignore about 20 solid minutes of pure left wing crap spread throughout the film to be able to enjoy it as an actioner.
If Mark Wahlberg had been on one of those planes that was hijacked during 9/11 he would have stopped it!
Well if it was Joe Biden he would have said “This is a big f***ing deal.”
He's a d0uchebag ... but it's pretty clear his testimony has been misrepresented.
I read some interview where the reporter asked Wahlberg if he ever tried to reach out to the Vietnamese guy he blinded in the robbery and try to help him out financially.
Basically, Wahlberg's response was that he hadn't and he didn't feel the need to. He had made peace with himself. He forgave himself for what he did to that man, and that was enough.
Wahlberg just went up a couple notches in my book.
Hadn’t heard that. I will admit I never thought very much of him in the past.
No. He would have instead attacked any innocent and defenseless passengers within reach.
From Wikipedia:
At 16, Wahlberg approached a middle-aged Vietnamese man on the street and, using a large wooden stick, knocked him unconscious (while calling him "Vietnam f*cking shit"). He also attacked another Vietnamese man, leaving him permanently blind in one eye.
In another incident, the 21-year-old Wahlberg fractured the jaw of a neighbor in an unprovoked attack.
And he has already gotten a reputation as a prototype for Hollywood narcissists in his own right. I hope this is a possible sign he is finally changing, but if not, I would not place too much value at all in this.
you write much
see post #24
I didn’t really notice.
I didn’t really notice. and he didn’t write it, direct it, or produce it either way.
Is Wahlberg himself a veteran? Just curious, that wouldn’t make his comments any more or less true, they stand alone.
My pet peeve though: from my heart I wish that God was back in our armed services other than being some proverbial entity whose last name is Damn.
It used to be well understood that purity of heart and courage and joy and dug-in determination went together. Then somehow we got the idea that cursing (and degrading talk about the bodies that God made) was the way of power and strength.
That’s just wrong. Anything the devil can pretend to do, God can actually do, and of course will do it far better. Also that put a saner perspective on war. It isn’t for naught that US conquests have been waged with the clear objective of bettering the conditions on the ground, not just leaving a smoking enemy. Even in the Gulf War the US was spoken of as having waged war “like a god.”
If the latest adventures in Islamic territory have fared so poorly, it is because to take hold, they would have required Islam (especially its militant flavors) to be supplanted by a more gospel-friendly philosophy. Which is a very tough thing to do.
He read the script and took the part. You may not be able to accept the fact that he’s a far left guy, but he is.
A perfect description of his tirade. I know people want to believe that there is some sincerity in Hollywood, but there is not, this is simply a marketing strategy aimed at the target audience of this movie.
Hmm, might be. If he’s not a vet.
Celluloid machismo.
But even yet. I am reminded of the adage that hypocrisy is the tribute which vice pays to virtue. If evil people didn’t know that virtue was good, they wouldn’t even ape it. And funny thing, virtue gets the glory (at least kind of... it is a virtue marred by profanity, which is the modern idea of manly strength). So we have evil pretending to something that is a counterfeit anyhow. What is it called when you make a phony of a phony? A metaphony?
