U.S. mobility for young adults has fallen to the lowest level in more than 50 years as cash-strapped 20-somethings shun home-buying and refrain from major moves in a weak job market. The new 2013 figures from the Census Bureau, which reversed earlier signs of recovery, underscore the impact of the sluggish economy on young people, many of them college graduates, whom demographers sometimes refer to as "Generation Wait."
Burdened with college debt or toiling in low-wage jobs, they are delaying careers, marriage and having children. Waiting anxiously for their lucky break, they are staying put and doubling up with roommates or living with Mom and dad, unable to make long-term plans or commit to buying a home - let alone pay a mortgage.

I was ‘young’ almost 50 years ago and youngsters todat haven’t a tenth of the ‘mobility’ or opportunity or anything we had then.
They’re shacking up and getting foodstamps and other assistance to supplement their service economy jobs. They learn fast how to milk the system.
Luckily their Moms will let them live in the basement until they’re 40 or so...
Oh well, :shrugs: most of them voted for the current regime, so they’re going to have to learn the hard way.
They really need to change their ways: stop leading immoral lives, get their news and info from some source other than SNL and/or Jon Stewart, and get their faces out of their I-phones for five minutes.
Americans have been enjoying too good of a lifestyle, the likelihood of home ownership, proving for your own health, travel, toilet tank size, quality of dishwasher detergent, quality of lightbulbs, thermostat temperature (and air conditioning) must all be limited by government FOR YOUR OWN GOOD.
They need to shut up and buy ObamaCare policies so that others may live.
With millions of them living at home, with no job, and a huge student loan debt, wonder if they are regretting their votes for Obumbles and the Democrats.
After being drilled for more than a dozen years that Republicans cause all of lifes problems?
Probably not.
The 40 year old failure to launch kids will sit like vultures waiting for mom to die to get her estate.
And hope there is not a large reverse mortgage to pay off upon her demise.
Many silly DUmmies will go back to school to get another useless degree via more student loans.
I kicked my boys out when they each turned 18. Of course I helped them PLAN for their launch but nonetheless, they knew they are on their own. So far, so good.
I’m kinda mean that way, LOL! ;)
Unless one is homosexual in my neck of the woods. Couples moving in everywhere. And they’ve got money!
Most of the recent college graduate have useless degrees. If you want a guaranteed job, major in engineering. Georgia Tech chemical engineers had a 94% job offer rate last spring. Sure government is a big factor, but a lot of the blame lies with the individual.
Hmm, not where I’d like to be in life due to things beyond my control (and in a few cases, beyond the control of others), but I own my home and my car, have little debt, and work a steady job that leaves me a couple hundred dollars after bills are paid.
I’m hoping things will change next year (just one step away from getting my EMT license and that opens up a lot of doors)...but dear leader makes the future very unpredictable.
They can’t afford the gas it takes to be mobile. Besides, there are no jobs wherever they may go. Play video games, live off of mom and dad, and vote for losers like Obama. The jobs that are left are for illegals.
Not in my house. I am worried, concerned, well more like curious, if my 18 year old daughter will spend a good chunk of Christmas break from college at home. She has her own place, with roommates, a job and pays for bulk of her college and expenses. She has plans for next summer already and it is not at home ... and she will be able to save for tuition.
I like her independence. It is very much like my own story. I just have to remind myself of what I did at that age and check all of news stories at the door.
Geez, I remember coming home to visit when I was in college and hearing about our next door neighbor's son living at home. He was 26. That was in the early 80's and it seemed queer to me.
The key to being independent today is the same as the early 80's. Work year round, go to school, don't go into debt, have many roommates - even if you don't like them - and enjoy being free and have fun.
It’s all part of the plan. Kill the middle class and the younger fools voted for it!
Obama is an evil genius! Obamacare is the biggest job killer ever.

I joined the Navy at 16 1/2 with my dad’s sign-off. An opportunity he knew would only pass by once. After getting out, I went to college and got a job and then a Masters degree. Worked my way through college and NEVER even let the thought of going back to my parent’s home enter my mind.
Today’s kids are wimps.
