This is indeed what will probably occur. However the Pubbies had little choice. Landrieu was going to send her bill to the House anyway; if they did nothing on their own they would look even more “uncaring” and like they are “siding with the insurance companies”.
By crafting a bill of their own, they will at least have a reason to give when (or I should probably say IF) they reject the Senate version. They will be able to say, “We wanted to extend the grandfather clauses forever; the Senate only wants to extend them for 2 years. Why didn’t they take up OUR bill?”
There isn’t anything that could be done (or not done) at this point. The real “trap” already sprung and trapped the R’s. This occured when they capitulated (again, in a long line of capitulations that got us here) on the “shutdown” and the repeal of O-care attached to it.
What’s going on now is, unfortunately, blatant lies and manipulation by the Democratic Party. Hopefully the Republicans realize this and actually try to explain to the populace why their plan was better. They should realize the momentum is still on their side. If they have any brains.
If they have any guts.
I’m glad someone out there gets it.
Upton has never been a friend to conservatives.
Right after break, they will offer the Landrieu bill, and force the house to vote on bringing it up.
At that point, WE are on record of wanting to throw the poor woman and children under the bus.
The Landrieu bill is a further train wreck that pushes the ball past the ‘14 elections.
We’ve been Rope-a-Doped, and most the GOPe know it. It’s part of the plan. Some here are lauding the Upton plan. Be careful what you wish for, and pay attention to procedural games they play in the senate.
