NC Tea Party US Senate candidate gaining ground in the polls

The messy rollout of Obamacare is hurting some of its strongest supporters including Sen. Kay Hagan. Her poll numbers are dipping to new lows and her GOP challengers are gaining ground, especially one unlikely Tea Party candidate.

Of all the GOP candidates challenging Kay Hagan for a U.S. Senate seat, Greg Brannon, an OBGYN from Cary, was the least known until now.

"I've been so honored to have the opportunity to live in this great Country and this great State. It's my time to give back," said Brannon.

Brannon was recently endorsed by Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and conservative pundit Ann Coulter. The most recent Democratic leaning public policy polling numbers shows that the Senate race has tightened considerably.

Brannon beat out prominent GOP challengers as the most likely Republican to best incumbent Hagan.

"I've delivered 9,000 babies. I love my job. I am not a politician. I consider that a four letter word. I'm going to be doing just what I did in the last 25 years – be a servant citizen and honor my oath. I understand that Constitution backwards and forwards," said Brannon.

N.C. State political science professor Steven Greene said, "It is safe to say that Thom Tillis has a much better chance. But if you're Kay Hagan, you've got to be pretty happy about Brannon doing well in the polls."

Greene said of Brannon's growing popularity that much of it is thanks to all the Tea Party energy in the Right, but he said that connection alone will also make it harder for more moderate voters to vote for him.

"He's not the most electable general election candidate for Republicans," said Greene.

They keep pushing Thom Tillis (an establishment Rovite) over Greg Brannon yet Brannon is beating Hagan while Tillis is not.

Typical.

Greg Brannon for Senate!!

Apparently this is the latest PPP poll although not mentioned in the
article. In any case none of the four GOP have a favorable rating over 21%
amongst the Republicans surveyed. However they are closing on Hagan for sure.

Favorable:

21% Tillis
10% Harris
08% Brannon
05% Grant

Q5 Given the choices of Greg Brannon, Heather
Grant, Mark Harris,
and Thom Tillis, who would
you most like to
see as the Republican candidate for Senate in 2014?

11% Greg Brannon
08% Heather Grant
04% Mark Harris
20% Thom Tillis
74% Someone else/Not sure

Remember the meme for the gop-e is the word: electable HA! Remember all those “electable” Rove candidates that lost in 2012! Yeah! We get the meaning, loud & clear! RUN from Tillis as hard as you can!
