Republicans are walking into a trap and they dont even realize it.
They are about to consider, in the House of Representatives, legislation by Congressman Upton that would allow people to keep their insurance plans.
Theres a problem though. It is widely acknowledged that Congressman Uptons legislation is more messaging than substance. His legislation does not have anything in it that can force insurance companies, in the topsy-turvy world of Obamacare, to keep insurance plans going.
But there is a plan than does. Senator Mary Landrieu has written legislation in the United States Senate that the Democrats love. It mandates insurance companies have to keep people on their present insurance. The GOP is supposedly against mandates and against government forcing private businesses and individuals into contracts they dont want.
Heres what is going to happen.
The House, with the help of a good number of Democrats, will pass the Upton plan and send it to the Senate. Harry Reid will substitute the Landrieu plan and send it back to the House. The House will be forced to either vote for the Landrieu plan or be characterized as siding with insurance companies against people.
In one fell swoop, the Democrats will have the GOP on record saving Mary Landrieus re-election in Louisiana by casting her as the one who saved Americans health care plans, and also getting on record as really being in favor of fixing Obamacare with the use of mandates.
The GOP is walking right into the trap.
Maybe just once the GOP could try telling American voters the truth? Just for the hell of it?
The truth is on our side here, we gain nothing from perpetuating this bullsh*t scam on the American people. There is no “Keeping Your Plan” anymore. That train has long since left the station. The only thing that anything short of total repeal of the ACA is going to accomplish is to help Democrats in the 2014 election.
The problem is that the "fix" just involves more coercive intrusion on the rights of individuals, on intrusion into and distortion of the insurance marketplace, on the future quality and proliferation of health care providers, and the damaging impact that their own regressive and arrogant assumptions is having on real individual American citizens and their families.
Just who do the Clintons, the Obamas, the Landrieu's, the Feinsteins--no matter how good they believe their intentions are--believe they are? That great intellectual freedom fighter, Author of the Declaration of Independence, and former President may have, inadvertently, identified them in the following quotation:
"The mass of mankind has not been born with saddles on their backs, nor a favored few booted and spurred, ready to ride them legitimately." Thomas Jefferson
Kabuki Theater. Sit back and enjoy the show ! God knows you've paid for it.
This has all the earmarks of a deal the RINO party just CAN’T resist.
Only a fool would expect them to resist.
We are not foolish men/women
Therefor, we do not expect them to resist.
If Obama’s Socialized Health Insurance Tax has little or no chance of financial success in 5 years, then why do Federal politicians in “both” political parties try to replace instead of ABOLISH Obamacare?
Don't shoot! Let 'em BURN!
If Boner could barrow a spine and do a news conference. He should say,
“Because Obamacare was shoved downs our throats and the SCOTUS upheld it, we have been trying to fix it. There are no good fixes for this. It’s like trying to get a plane to fly without wings. Before it’s too late, we need to repeal the whole bill and start over. That’s what the House of Reps will now support. Nothing else will legally fix this.”
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C. S. Lewis
In negotiating, the Republican Party never fails to provide an opening— while bending over.
I am glad its failing and I hope the disaster speeds up.
The GOP should not agree to anything unless Obama reverses his stand and restores the $16 trillion debt limit. Since he would never do that because it requires real spending cuts, let him burn in Hell the next three years over Obamacare.
That`s just it.
Both plans are ex post facto laws therefore, unlawful .
It is retroactive coercion.
It is more marxism, not less.
LOL!!!
Nuff Said, Period.. (or does “period” now reduce my intent?)
