Christian organization cancels 'Duck Dynasty' event because Robertsons have wine deal
FOX News ^ | November 13, 2013 | Hollie McKay

Despite his devotion to dinner time prayers and Christian values, "Duck Dynasty" star Willie Robertson has been axed from speaking at a benefit in Bristol, Tenn. for the faith and bible-driven organization, Family Ministries.

Why?

Wine.

The famous family announced its latest business venture last week: Duck Commander Wines. In conjunction with the winemakers of Trinchero Family Estates in Napa, the Robertsons' own line of Red, Moscato and Chardonnay is slated to hit stores next month. According to the Ministries, Duck Commander Wines goes against the organization's core values.

"Our greatest responsibility is to the young people we serve. Therefore, we feel that in light of the recent news, to continue with this event would send mixed messages to the young people who go through our Adolescent Drug and Alcohol program," Derek Bell, director of development for Family Ministries stated. "Our message must be consistent. The lives of those children may well hang in the balance. We certainly apologize to the people who have already purchased tickets, and pray they understand our position."

Yeah... Jesus turned water into wine. The baptists turn wine into grape juice. <-— not my original material, but I forgot where I heard it.

When going fishing, it is wise to invite two baptists with you. Why? Because if you invite one baptist, he will drink all your beer. If you invite two baptists, then you get all the beer to yourself.

Ephesians 5:18..."And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit"..;

Emphasis on drunk and excess. St Paul did not condemn wine as a sin but only its misuse. However if one has had a problem with alcohol and an addictive bent then don't drink at all if it leads one astray.

Did not Jesus turn water into WINE in his first miracle?

Which He did at the request of His mother because there WASN'T ENOUGH WINE to last through the wedding feast!

I am not a teetoller in life, but I understand my church is. The first ammendment is great as it give freedom of religion and association. The Methodist can always have DD over for a show.

Yeah, I’ve never understood the teetotaling Christian. I follow the Lord Jesus, and he drank a little wine. I see no problem, as long as there is no drunkenness.

Their reasoning may be flawed, but they are certainly within their rights to do this. So, “Shrug.”

What about those christians who smoke cigarettes? Sure its a bad, unhealthy habit but are we to reject them because of it? Good thing the Almighty doesn’t reject us for being imperfect or we would all be hades bound.

I know Christians who insist Jesus never drank wine, only grape juice, and are fanatical on this point.

I really like what the Robertsons have done with their series and have no problem with them having a line of wines. I also have no problem with these people!!

“Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now.”

“Everyone serves good unfermented fruit juice first, and when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good unfermented fruit juice until now.”

I don’t know, seems only one of these makes sense, at least to me.

I do kinda respect them for be such sticklers, it is fairly rare nowadays.

Well DD is not selling cigarettes, probably have Michelle after them then.

Baptists are taught not to drink. Catholic preists are told not to marry. Church of Christ doesn’t have a piano. Churches are different and with Duck Dynasty star power they could easily go to another denomination down the street.

I'm reading their book "Duck Commander Family"

You might well enjoy it.

It's great to have some more folks in "pop culture" not afraid to talk about their religious faith.
