Should the GOP go along with a partial fix that will help a handful of vulnerable Democrats save their seats and a few million Americans save their insurance for one year?
Hard as it is for me to say given the peril of those Americans, I think the answer is no, unless the Republicans drive a very hard bargain, one that includes some very apparently unrelated items, items which are indeed connected to the terribly destructive way Harry Reid has run the Senate and the president has run the executive branch.
We need the president to stop his war on the economy as well as his war on healthcare. He has to stop the EPA from gutting the energy industry. He has to negotiate on the debt.
We need Harry Reid to stop destroying the Senate and to live by the very rules he and Pat Leahy wielded against Bush judicial nominees from 2003-2006.
We need immediate relief for the DOD from the absurd sequester caps even as domestic spending remains cabined.
Mostly though we need real Obamacare reform, and not just a delay of one year. I accept the president wont accept repeal, but he ought to accept postponement until 2017 because the very basics of the system are so deeply flawed as to prevent rollout until then, and another presidential election will allow people to focus on the law and decide whether to proceed with eyes opened.
There are plenty of smart folks who could fix this mess like Wellspring founder Denny Weinberg and Avik Roy and many others but they need time and the state insurance commissioners need authority. Those sorts of provisions must be part of an Obamacare bailout bill.

Bingo...I also laughed when I read that...
The White House knew exactly what they were doing, and part of the plan is dragging the GOPe into the fix, to shift the blame to the Pubbies.
The Democrats need to eat every single piece of Obamacare poop.
No.
“REPEAL IT! No help to BO and the Rats. To the libs everywhere - Live With IT or Repeal IT!”
Agreed. The Repubs have to play this right. The RATS will push for fixes. If the Repubs block them THEY will blamed for Obamacare’s problems. One way to avoid that will be to state loudly and often that Obamacare CANNOT be fixed and MUST be repealed as it is fundamentally flawed. They also need to start running commercials that Obamacare threatens people’s healthcare and that millions are losing their insurance and doctors. There need to be lots of sob stories from those who are “suffering” because of this law either by losing insurance or their doctor. A little “we told you so” wont hurt also. This is a great opportunity that I’m sure the Repubs will screw up.
Typical Republicans snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory.
Either way, Obamacare is unfixable no matter what anyone does. To make it work -- and he's an avid golfer, so if he were golfing -- he'd need the statistical equivalent of 18 holes-in-one. He's still stuck in the sand trap for the first hole.
You can’t fix stupid. Which means the Republican leadership will try to fix it.
F NO!
While I appreciate that pundits and commentators have to put out articles on a regular basis, I don’t see how a sentient human being can entertain this notion for a millisecond.
There has hardly been one point of contention in the entire sordid, rotten presidency of Barack 0bama where Geo Bush didn’t do almost as bad. Fast & furious? Started under Bush, yes I know, not as bad, but there’s always the point that W started it. The level of corruption? Well, that’s unmatched, but since none of it has been prosecuted, it’s again a moot point.
With 0care, here we have the single issue destined to touch the greatest number of Americans, destined to cause them the most harm, immutably badged with 0bama, and looking like a trainwreck of galactic proportions.
Leave it alone. I did not think this way during the Cruz filibuster period. Let there be no doubt, the damage from letting this proceed is going to be epic. And it’s entirely unnecessary. But there is no stopping this thing now until the Dems suffer the massive defeat I suspect they will...ONLY if they remain branded with this disaster, consistently, and unrelentingly.
“Mitch McConnell knows exactly the sort of bargain to drive, as does Paul Ryan. If the president and the desperate Democrats want to deal, the Speaker should send just Ryan along with Leader McConnell to the meeting, and get down to the specifics of undoing the vast damage the bystander president has wrought.”
With all due respect to Mr. Hewitt. McConnell DOES NOT know what kind of bargain to drive. McConnell DOES NOT know how to negotiate.
Maybe Ryan does, but I think even that remains to be seen....
I'd love to see all the people who voted for Obama get their insurance cancelled, I really would. I want to hear them howl when their bill goes from $450 to $2,450 or so. This is the GOP's chance to go all 'Cloward-Piven' on these bastards, and they'd be really stupid not to take advantage of it.
Just vote PRESENT! See other thread.
Though be prepared that if the Dems come and ask the GOP to help fix it, and they refuse, the media will start a relentless 24/7 carpet bombing campaign blaming Republicans for the fact that your healthcare is screwed-up.
I’d be very careful about stepping into the trap here.
Obamacare must be repealed...now!!! And.......not only because the Republicans deem it necessary!!! The Clinton attack on Obama will be fantastically successful!!! the Clintons will totally destroy Barack Hussein (traitor, Muslim) Obama. The mass of Democrat rank and file will flock to the clintons ans throw Obama under the bus very quickly!!!
Obama has one, and only one, card to play......admit he lied, scrap the entire “Obamacare”, enter negotiations with Democrats, Republicans & private industry and come with a health care bill with no federal government participation at all!!! If Obama does not do this....he will in effect be useless for the rest of his term...and...worse he will go down as the worst, failed POTUS in American history!!!
Obama....reality has arrived. Ego and ugly manners will get you zilch!!! the Clinton political arrow has hit you right in the center of your arrogant heart!!!
Let the GOP appear "sensitive" to the "plight of many of the suffering Americans who've lost their insurance due to Obama care that is "settled law and as such cannot be 'fixed' or 'changed.'"
If they had the guts and some political savvy, repeat that "every member of the GOP voted AGAINST Obamacare for this very reason but they are happy to help the people by repealing in its entirety."
The dims passed this crap all by themselves (using trickery), they pummelled Republicans over all their attempts for repeal, accused Sen. Cruz of shutting down the govt over settled law, etc......
Now that the public is suffering, and zero’s numbers are in the toilet along with his big stinker, Republicans are supposed to come up with a solution, or once again they’re the bad guys.
I’d like to see them attempt another vote for repeal, while at the same time, write a solution for those who have lost their coverage.
They should also be out there every chance they get reminding Americans how much of their hard earned money was thrown at this pile.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
Bingo
Those who want to change settled law are hostage takers, arsonists, terrorists with bombs on their chest, etc etc etc.
Remember the Barrycades!
