Reports of Tea Party demise are greatly exaggerated

Something like a standard interpretation of last week’s elections has now emerged: The country has taken a baby step to the left, the Tea Party wing of the Republican Party has been weakened, and Regular Republicans—pro-business and pro-establishment—are finally fighting back. …

I suspect these consensus conclusions are premature (dare I say they come from the echo chamber?)

Neither the results nor the exit polls show any tidal wave of new opposition to Tea Partyism—certainly not enough to discourage the true believers. …

He goes way off beam branding Cuccinelli as being to the right of the House Tea Party members. he was actually neutral in the dispute over the names on the ballot in the Republican primary. Not that this helped him with the Romney supporters.

They’re not greatly exaggerated, they’re great, big, fat lies designed to confuse Low Information Voters and deflate and dis-spirit our side.

To put this into prospective...because the BBC guy isn’t that big of an investigative journalist....it’s about the period of the election more than anything else.

This Virginia election is in a non-year in terms of political activity. It’s not affected by events of the 2012 election or the upcoming 2014 election. If you went to the public in Virginia....less than half had any interest in the outcome...for either side.

Virginia times it’s election like this....to avoid the thrills or extreme nature of a national election. So fewer people come out, and the election is generally quietly run with few state residents noticing anything. This past decade has been different, but that’s the gimmick of modern times.

So the Tea Party is mostly sitting there and amusing themselves over the healthcare episode, quietly walking into 2014. In roughly forty states, their activity will make or break a number of Republican and Democratic players.

Thankfully,no one will remember the demise comments of this BBC reporter....as he frets in October of 2014 of the extremists of the Tea Party.

I lived in Virginia for 3.5 years....leaving this past summer.

Virginia is really four separate states as I came to realize. There’s Fairfax/Arlington, which is a urban yuppie collection of characters....all driving Lexus and BMWs. There’s Charlottsville, which is a magnet for liberal groups. There’s the coastal region....still living out of the 1970s, and sucking as much out of Norfolk’s industry as possible. And finally, there’s the rest of the state (right-wing to the core).

No reporter ever sweeps across the entire state to tell a story. It’s typically ‘lets-stop-in-Fairfax’ and interview six gals at a coffee shop.

What,

Has the budget been balanced?

Has the national debt been eliminated?

Have our taxes been reduced?

Have our Constitutioanl rights been restored?

As long as the problems remain so will the opposition to them.
