(Reuters) - The Washington state Senate on Saturday passed a measure to extend nearly $9 billion in tax breaks for Boeing through 2040 in an embattled effort to entice the company to locate production of its newest jet, the 777X, in the Seattle area.
Lawmakers acknowledged, however, that their efforts would likely be undermined if the airplane maker's key machinists union votes down a proposed labor contract due to go to before the membership on Wednesday.

Just 20 years too late . . .. liberal idiots.
This is during a time Washington Democrats are calling for closing tax loopholes for big business...
DK
Just like twinkies....the union will learn
Maybe the Union can turn Seattle into Peoria ...
The unions here in Washington have always been a problem for Boeing. A bunch of law-skilled, over-privileged twits.
Come on back to me baby, said the abusive husband, and we can make it okay.
Riiight... use tax payer money as bait to nazify Boeing before crucifying it under labor once caught. Screw these devil deals
Some company lost a few million dollars in Maine, based on a (passed) law that mandated automobile emissions testing. The law was repealed before it went into effect, but in order for the law to be workable, some company had to provide emissions testing facilities. The state government actively enticed companies to come in, then pulled the rug out from underneath. The state was sued, the company lost the suit. Rationale: legislation is known to be fluid.
I'd take the tax offer as close to worthless.
It’s not the labor cost stupid! It’s all the other costs, like hidden taxes; utility costs; workman’s comp; unemployment insurance, pension, health care. They can like the automotive industry pay the same wages as Detroit and save money.
Boeing is gone. The union doesn’t hold much power here as it is a new product line and they can ship the work wherever they want.
I think you meant your remark for somebody else. I didn’t say anything about the labor cost or the bad feelings between management and the union. I simply said the government can’t be trusted to keep its (tax favor) word.
wait....this can’t be. taxes are good for the economy. they’re good for business. if you believe the looney toon left then raise the heck out of the taxes.
that’ll have businesses flocking to the state......
“But at a raucous union meeting Thursday night, IAM President Tom Wroblewski tore up the proposed contract and called it “a piece of crap.”
Far better to have your members on the unemployment line right, Tom. Idiot.
Don’t even think about it Boeing. Pick up and move the whole shebang to S.C.
Yep that's what I dislike about Free Republic. Under every comment should be a link to reply to poster, or reply to subject. Innocuous posts not meant for the previous poster sets off fire storms.
Hahahah. Yeah. I thought maybe you were just using the most recent post as a springboard. One can remove the entry in the "To:" field, or change the contents to "All."
Maybe the city and state can just pay for the union raises, too.
“Pick up and move the whole shebang to S.C.”
Airbus would enjoy this move. Just look how well the additional 787 line in Charleston works. Boeing could buy a cheap tombstone at Walmart produced somewhere in China.
