Ted Cruz to Jay Leno: 'What I'm Trying to Do is Do My Job'

Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz made his late night television debut Friday, where he and Tonight Show host Jay Leno talked about his opinions on Obamacare, same-sex marriage and his future ambitions.

Leno wasn't easy on the freshman senator, who has become one of the loudest critics of Obamacare, and whose efforts to defund the president's health insurance plan was one of the factors leading to October's partial government shutdown, CNN reports.

"Don't believe everything you read," Cruz told Leno, in response to questions about complaints from both Democrats and Republicans that he is "aggressive, arrogant and abrasive."

"What I’m trying to do is do my job,” he said. “And occasionally people don’t like it.” Cruz, while discussing Obamacare, reiterated his belief that the law is both harmful and destructive, but denied he wants to eliminate health care reform.

"I'm a big believer in health care reform" Cruz told Leno. "I think we ought to reform health care so it's personal, it’s portable, it’s affordable. We ought to empower patients rather than government bureaucrats getting between you and your doctor.”

“”I’m a big believer in health care reform” Cruz told Leno. “I think we ought to reform health care so it’s personal, it’s portable, it’s affordable. We ought to empower patients rather than government bureaucrats getting between you and your doctor.”

Cruz cuts through it and communicates clearly, succinctly and simply.

I absolutely love Gov Sarah Palin - truly a conservative warrior.

That said, Cruz is the one for 2016...if the Constitution is still intact.

It’s a no brainer!

I watched the interview and kept hoping he’d cut Jay short and ask him and his audience just how much government they want exactly. Because that’s really the issue. If they want a big monstrosity with tentacles in every orafice of their lives, then Cruz could stop wasting his time, resign from the Senate, start a car dealership and let everyone live in the North Korea of their own making.

Leno asked about same-sex marriage again? Leno is obsessed with same-sex marriage He badgered Michelle Bachmann about it and others. He keeps bringing it up over and over again. He ridicules Russians about the stand on gays. I would guess Leno is a bisexual. I am told that Letterman is even more obsessed with this issue.

Wow, great applause after Ted said Obamacare is the single biggest job killer in the US.

I didn’t see the show. Ted Cruz is by far the best candidate we have. The libs are getting nervous. Bitter and bigoted D. Letterman has already been using the buzz word “crazy” for him.

I don’t know if Leno is bisexual, or if he’s just another leftist who loves queers. I suspect the latter.

Leno’s interview with Cruz was openly antagonistic. Something tells me the tone was probably friendlier when Leno interviewed Chris Christie. Didn’t he feed the pig glazed donuts, or something?

There was a Freeper and his crew in the audience. That’s why Jay looked annoyed at the heavy applause for Cruz.

Well said. While I'd love to see Mrs. Palin as the first female President... I think she is still carrying too much baggage - thanks to the horrendous media bias against here. Meanwhile Mr. Cruz is carrying political ammo and refreshingly, he's not afraid to use it!

I know this is slighty off topic because it’s not about the Leno interview, but I have been struck by the masterful strateegery of Cruz.

He got the assembled Democratic powers to double-down on Obamacare. They intransigently refused any modifications or delays. This was one month ago and days after the portal launch.

There’s now videos and quotes of Obamacare defenders, affirming the absolute untouchable perfect brilliance of Obamacare. In October, 2013. A whole lot of those defenders are at risk in Nov 2014.

Hard to disown stuff that even the low/mis info voter can remember as happening so recently, amidst the lights and cameras of the horrible government shutdown. /sarc.

Obamcare is a slow-motion train wreck. Because of Cruz, its stalwart defenders missed the flashing red signals and instead they gleefully poured on more coal as the train charged onward, toward the light at the end of the tunnel.

Rope-a-dope, I call it.

Leno has been in California and around faggots too long.

When you live around the entertainment world you are surrounded by homosexuals, you are friends with many of them and you want to see them happy. Your personal views on homosexuality becomes screwed up—exactly because they are everywhere and unless they are packing fudge or scarfing a carpet at the time ,they appear normal.

Hollywood and the entertainment industry has been Homo Heaven for many years dating back to Garbo through Rock Hudson and James Dean and Barbara Stanwyck.

Homosexuals realize that if you stay around them long enough you become more susceptible to their normality during the day and forget their perversions at night.
