The Mormon church stands to own nearly 2 percent of Florida by completing a deal to buy most of the real estate of the St. Joe Co. for more than a half-billion dollars.
The megapurchase was announced jointly Thursday by a corporate representative of church, which owns the nearly 295,000-acre Deseret Ranches in Central Florida, and by the real-estate and timber business, which has built several communities along the Panhandle coast.

He’d probably be glad that somebody was buying land to put people to work in productive agricultural pursuits. I’m sure ObaMao is deeply disappointed because it could have been subdivided into more high-rise housing for all his illegal alien buddies. And apparently, so are you.
its funny to me that its not bigoted to say how much property is owned by Mormons. try inserting another religions name instead and see how that sounds.

Since by your comment, you obviously didn’t take to heart what He said before, you probably wouldn’t understand It.
In Mormonism, turning over 10% of your gross annual income is required, or else you are restricted to the lower ranks of the religion and after life, you are literally forbidden entrance into the massive Temples, and are relegated to the plain building made for the average (non-10%) Mormons.
Joesph Smith’s religion raises a heck of a lot of money.
He’d say better the Mormon Church than the atheist government or a bunch of Muslim terrorists. And if they can invest their money, make more of it, and provide jobs then they’re being good stewards.
Jesus? Why are we bringing Him into this? Did the LDS organization violate any laws in this land deal? If not, what do you or I care what they do with their money? Didn’t that money come from offering plates within their congregations?
I don’t know what Jesus would say, but I say uipes! The Mormons already own virtually all of central Florida in their huge cattle ranch (second only to the King Ranch).
My goodness, my teeth are dropping out of my mouth (you don’t know how literally). Finally a bunch of Freepers are coming to the defense of the Mormons. Thought I’d never see the day. Bravo. Better Mormons buy the land and put it to good use, which they indeed will, than a bunch of Muzzies buying it for a super mosque. There’s an awful lot of Muzzies down there in Florida, which I find worrisome.
Might as well go after the RC Church the Episcopalians and some of the wealthier Protestant sects.
What’s your point, that we should take from the rich to give to the poor. Sounds like the regime.
God has given people free will and people can donate their money to whomever they please ( once the government takes their cut of course.)
I agree if no laws were violated then what is the problem. If you feel your religion is losing ground to the Mormons get out there and evangelize.
Love your neighbor and preach the gospels. That is what Jesus said.
From the tithing the Mormons have farms that out of work families can go to rather than live off the gubmit teat.
If the Lutherans, Baptists, Catholics or whoever had their teenagers spend two years a piece as missionaries, they’d be growing, too.

In the case of the Mormon church, I expect it will be directed towards good.
My ex-Mormon Dad said the Mormon church raised crops, and stored food, etc. in order to do good.

Jesus said "Feed my sheep" not "build up billions in profits for the mormon corporation." The mormon church is a business for profit...period!
Zero Point Two Percent Ostling (Mormon America) compared the Mormon Church to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA). They had a similar number of reported members in 1997. At that time, the ELCA had $152 Million in assets that was primarily the pension fund for the employees.
This is compared to the assets of the Mormon Church as reported above. In 1997 the ELCA raised $11.8 Million for humanitarian aid and $3.64 Million for disaster relief for a total of 15.44 Million in cash donations for charity.
In the 14 year period from 1984 – 1997 the Mormon Church reported cash donations for non-Mormon charity at $30.7 Million, or an average of 2.19 Million per year to the Ostlings. This translates to ELCA donating a little over 10% of its holdings in 1997 and the Mormon Church donating approximately .2% of its holdings.
Most businesses in the United States have higher percentage charitable contributions than does the Mormon Church.
Technically, they are not growing. They are losing as many as they are gaining. People don’t always bother to get their names off the rolls. Our local wards have remained pretty stagnant for quite some time. The Boy Scout troops have almost folded.
They intend to corner the grapefruit market!
