Machinists are expressing anger at the terms offered by Boeing to win the 777X work for Everett. Boeing said in a statement that the company is ready to "pursue other options" outside Washington.
In a dramatic end to a meeting with hundreds of disgruntled Machinists at the Seattle union headquarters Thursday night, District 751 President Tom Wroblewski tore up a copy of Boeings contract proposal and said he would try to have it withdrawn.
I know this is a piece of crap, Wroblewski said about the proposed new eight-year agreement that Boeing says will determine whether the forthcoming 777X jet is built in Everett.
I will go to see if this can be withdrawn and not even put to a vote, he said.
The local union leader spoke from the podium as the intense and raucous meeting came to an end and people filed out. He told members hell check whether the unions bylaws allow the proposal to be pulled so there is no vote next Wednesday.
Boeing did not comment on the meeting except to say in a statement:
All of our options are still on the table, including those within Boeing and interest we have received from outside. We chose to engage in Puget Sound first, but without full acceptance by the union and Legislature, we will be left with no choice but to open up the process competitively and pursue other options for locating the 777X work.
Wroblewski was responding to a wave of strong negative feeling in the meeting in South Park, where members of the Local A unit of District 751 heard details of the proposed contract and voiced their opinions.
Some arrived for the meeting carrying large homemade Vote No signs, and the opinion of the majority came through loud and clear.

It was their system more than the people that made for success. Not having the UAW and being able to flush the workers who didn’t show up, didn’t care, or didn’t know is a big help also.
Be smart like Airbus and move to Alabama!
Mobile will welcome them.....LOL
“This is no surprise to me. I live in the Seattle area and I remember the strike that the Boeing Machinist Union took during the economic downturn”
Then you remember the Almost Live skit about the Boeing union members sleeping on their desks?
Hotdog!
True enough, but those who did not get broomed did out preform the identical Japanese line by a very slight margin. At a time when the Japanese PM was making statements about stupid and lazy Americans.
yeah, not a very good switch if you end up in chicago.
Because that worked out so well for the hostess union. Lol
Keep it up, unions. Chengdu’s offer will ultimately win out.
You’da thunk that the Boeing union geniuses would have learned back in the 1970’s when Boeing cut back 40,000 jobs , and darn near shut down Seattle, that their collective buttz are not golden or indispensible. But they are proving they are super slow learners about that whole idea of being competitive. None of these union goons should be buying new cars yet because Boeing cannot afford to bluff.
They got Twinkied!
Union leaders are the biggest drama queens around.
They compete to see who can be the most vulgar and outright childish in there comments.
Is it really any wonder they are not looked upon with any respect...I still relish what Scott Walker did in WI.
It opened a lot of eyes to the real relationship of unions and politicians at the expense of the citizens.
Let them grow medical marijuana. That will fill in the void.
But local Machinists are not shy about what they think. Many believe that Boeing is bluffing and will come back with a better offer if this one is rejected.
Do you think the airline customer is going to want this plane built somewhere else where theres no expertise? said the 58-year-old.
Now the NLRB has Richard Griffin on its side so the union probably is more confident that Boeing can’t move out of Seattle.
If it’s such a bad offer, I wonder why he doesn’t want the vote to go forward. I think he knows the offer would be accepted and he would lose some of his clout. It has been my experience that the union worker ants aren’t so militant as the few rabid leaders, and would chose feeding their families over propping up an idiot spokesman.
You make a good point, was surprised that in the article it was mentioned a couple of members said they’d for the package.
Just like the union and its leader.
And the Seattle Times also - they’ve always come down on the side of the unions, constantly bashing Boeing.
Last time Boeing slowed down there was this billboard sign reading “Will The Last Person
leaving Seattle Please Turn Out The Lights”
