On ESPNs Around the Horn, frequent guest Kevin Blackistone of the Dallas Morning News said that football games should not include the singing of the national anthem beforehand, as that added to the military symbolism. He actually called the Star-Spangled Banner a war anthem.
Blackistone was addressing controversy over Northwestern Universitys American flag-themed football uniforms, designed to raise money for the Wounded Warriors Project. In a show segment titled Buy or Sell, Blackistone said that he would sell the uniforms:

Ever since Obama was re-elected, I have not felt very good about saluting the flag or hearing the National Anthem. Those two symbols of greatness should be carefully folded up and put away until this period of darkness is over. Or until we put it on our militia uniforms as a symbol of rebellion!
:-) I remember Meathead making the same argument back around 1970 on “All In The Family.” :-)
and he is a professor to boot.

You can leave.
Go away.
That would explain drooling or uncontrolled flatulence. Maybe this guy has both of those problems, too. I don't know.
But it doesn't explain light-in-the-loafers leftism so many of these wannabe jock journalists are afflicted with.
In case you are still around after your major flaming:
The Star-Spangled Banner is the current national anthem of the United States of America. The poem (lyrics) was written by Francis Scott Key. On 13 September 1814, during the War of 1812, Key visited the British fleet in Chesapeake Bay to negotiate the release of Dr. William Beanes, who had been captured after the burning of Washington DC. The release was completed, but Key remained with the British overnight during the shelling of Fort McHenry, one of the forts defending Baltimore. In the morning, Key saw through clearing smoke an American flag still flying after the 25 hour bombardment of Fort McHenry. He wrote a poem to commemorate the occasion, noting that it should be sung to the popular British melody “To Anacreon in Heaven.”
Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
‘Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust.”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

La Marseillaise - English lyrics
Arise children of the fatherland
The day of glory has arrived
Against us tyranny’s
Bloody standard is raised
Listen to the sound in the fields
The howling of these fearsome soldiers
They are coming into our midst
To cut the throats of your sons and consorts
To arms citizens Form your battalions
March, march
Let impure blood
Water our furrows
What do they want this horde of slaves
Of traitors and conspiratorial kings?
For whom these vile chains
These long-prepared irons?
Frenchmen, for us, ah! What outrage
What methods must be taken?
It is us they dare plan
To return to the old slavery!
What! These foreign cohorts!
They would make laws in our courts!
What! These mercenary phalanxes
Would cut down our warrior sons
Good Lord! By chained hands
Our brow would yield under the yoke
The vile despots would have themselves be
The masters of destiny
Tremble, tyrants and traitors
The shame of all good men
Tremble! Your parricidal schemes
Will receive their just reward
Against you we are all soldiers
If they fall, our young heros
France will bear new ones
Ready to join the fight against you
Frenchmen, as magnanimous warriors
Bear or hold back your blows
Spare these sad victims
That they regret taking up arms against us
But not these bloody despots
These accomplices of Bouillé
All these tigers who pitilessly
Ripped out their mothers’ wombs
We too shall enlist
When our elders’ time has come
To add to the list of deeds
Inscribed upon their tombs
We are much less jealous of surviving them
Than of sharing their coffins
We shall have the sublime pride
Of avenging or joining them
Drive on sacred patriotism
Support our avenging arms
Liberty, cherished liberty
Join the struggle with your defenders
Under our flags, let victory
Hurry to your manly tone
So that in death your enemies
See your triumph and our glory!
Chinese national anthem,
Arise, ye who refuse to be slaves;
With our very flesh and blood
Let us build our new Great Wall!
The peoples of China are in the most critical time,
Everybody must roar his defiance.
Arise! Arise! Arise!
Millions of hearts with one mind,
Brave the enemy’s gunfire,
March on! Brave the enemy’s gunfire,
March on! March on! March on, on!
America the peacenik.

“God save our gracious Queen
Long live our noble Queen
God save the Queen
Send her victorious
Happy and glorious
Long to reign over us
God save the Queen
O Lord our God arise
Scatter her enemies
And make them fall
Confound their politics
Frustrate their knavish tricks
On Thee our hopes we fix
God save us all
Thy choicest gifts in store
On her be pleased to pour
Long may she reign
May she defend our laws
And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice
God save the Queen
Not in this land alone
But be God’s mercies known
From shore to shore
Lord make the nations see
That men should brothers be
And form one family
The wide world over
From every latent foe
From the assassins blow
God save the Queen
O’er her thine arm extend
For Britain’s sake defend
Our mother, prince, and friend
God save the Queen”
The Germans even use Deutschland Uber Alles still,, in modified form. Same song as in WWII.
This sportswriter needs to grow a pair. Warlike national anthems abound.
Sorry, Mr Espn, you haven’t read the entire song.
It’s a God’s Providence song.
Re “Demolition Man”. Was that Sandra Bullock’s first movie? Cute butt. Met Glen Shaddix. Nice guy.
Wesley Snipes was really funny and Stallone wasn’t bad either.
Rattaburgers!. That’s what we’ll be eating under new FDA rules.
You don’t bring a stungstick to a fight where the opponent has guns.
In fact, the whole movie was an early preview of Obamacare. However, I liked the ending when “the people” rose up and got rid of the PC fascists. Now it is our turn.
Maybe they learned fear from all the big guys that pounded on their heads, and they turned in wusses? I dunno...It would seem, if you have been beat up, you would want to be the beater, so you would join a gang of cowardly bullies. That would give you power to confront the godfather, and demand to know why his thugs haven’t been to the gay bar to beat up the clientele in three weeks.
But I digress.
I noticed that the Blackhawks name is still OK, but the Redskins are offensive!!!
how about the Fighting Sioux?
The Seminoles?
