SALT LAKE CITY Politico reported Wednesday night that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., had said The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its members are changing their views on gay rights.
The church reacted Thursday evening by issuing a statement that indicated its doctrine about traditional marriage has not changed...
..."As the church has said before, elected officials who are Latter-day Saints make their own decisions and may not necessarily be in agreement with one another or even with a publicly stated church position..."
"...On the question of same-sex marriage, the church has been consistent in its support of traditional marriage while teaching that all people should be treated with kindness and understanding. If it is being suggested that the churchs doctrine on this matter is changing, that is incorrect.
"Marriage between a man and a woman is central to Gods plan for the eternal destiny of His children. As such, traditional marriage is a foundational doctrine and cannot change."

The church has been consistent in its support of traditional marriage ... If it is being suggested that the churchs doctrine on this matter is changing, that is incorrect.
Marriage between a man and a woman is central to Gods plan for the eternal destiny of His children. As such, traditional marriage is a foundational doctrine and cannot change.
This is a bald-faced lie!
In fact, the LDS position on marriage has changed significantly over time!
For behold, I reveal unto you a new and everlasting covenant; and if ye abide not that covenant, then are ye damned; for no one can reject this covenant and be permitted to enter into my glory. Doctrine & Covenants Section 132
For years, the Mormon doctrine demanded polygamous marriage as a requirement for attaining their ultimate goal of godhood ... the relevant passages are still found in their sacred scripture to this day.
Further, as pointed out here by Colofornian, the Mormon Church has consistently supported homosexual rights in recent years. Examples include:
The Mormon Church also has a long history of lying about their changes in position, even going to such extraordinary lengths as making thousands alterations to their scriptural and historical texts.
This article is but one more example of their loathsome practice.
Well, it’s about time the “church leaders” got up off their knees long enough to excommunicate the bastard!!! Oh, well, then there’s the Catholics and Nazi Pelosi and the Jews and George Soros, so I guess it’s o.k so long as these are “important” people and can “buy” indulgences to routinely violate their chosen church’s doctrine.
Harry Reid isn’t just a Mormon, he is among the purist of Mormons, the most devout, he is a part of the more deeply religious Temple Mormons, and is verified as such, and is issued annual ID if he stays at that level.
Tell it to the Episcopalians...
LDS needs to de-Mormon Harry Reid...
Harry Reid left the LDS for SEIU and the CPUSA long ago.
Yet Harry remains a sanctioned “visiting home teacher” with the Lds church in good standing, eh? Interesting
Apparently not so devout, since he’s pro-gay marriage. Reid is to LDS as Pelosi is to Catholicism.
Touché, sir.
Yet they let a tranny attend priesthood meeting.
Sounds like, as usual, they don’t know which way is up.
You clearly don't know anything about Mormonism.
Like the Kennedys and countless democrat politicians around America, Pelosi is a full Catholic, she meets her Pope, she takes communion at the Vatican, and as a democrat she represents the party of most Catholics, but Harry Reid is a special Mormon, he has been vetted and issued ID that proves that he is especially devout, and devoted, and has been individually looked into and found to be so by church leadership, through personal interviews and proofs.
Harry Reid has special rewards in the afterlife that most Mormons fall short of attaining, Reid doesn't attend a normal Mormon church, he attends the secret and private services in the Temples where the ID is required, where only those proven to be devout and true, are allowed, average Mormons, the majority of Mormons, are forbidden entrance.
Harry Reid knows that he and Glenn Beck, and Mitt Romney will become Gods at some point.
Harry Reid will someday be God of his own planet, he will be God the Father, as our God is to us, as will Glenn Beck and Mitt, Harry Reid is no simple, average Mormon, much less just a pew sitting, indifferent Mormon.
So you are saying because Reid is some kind of super-Mormon that he can also be pro-abortion because the super-Mormon status shields him from his actions? I’ve been around Catholics my whole life...few of them believe Pelosi is a true Catholic because of her abortion stance.
Don’t care much about Mormon theology...they may be right, they may be wrong, nobody actually knows. For all we know, the Hindus have it right and everybody is wrong.
I didn’t say anything like that.
Reid isn’t shielded, or escaping Mormon law, he is fully examined and is forced to regularly submit to interviews with the leaders of his faith, to establish the degree of his faithfulness to Mormonism, and Reid always receives the highest grade, and is issued ID so that he can worship in the buildings reserved for the most pure Mormons, the buildings that regular Mormons are forbidden entrance into,
Bishop Romney who is also among the most faithful of Mormons, is also proabortion, he has been an incredibly passionate and sincere promoter of abortion, yet he was a church Bishop and Stake President (similar to a Catholic Bishop).
Mormonism is not as pro-life as we are led to think, there is more to Mormonism than you seem to know.
Mitt Romney for instance was perfectly acceptable as church leadership and in performing his duties of excommunicating other Mormons, while personally being strongly pro-abortion.
Romney is Mormon Royalty from a family that immigrated to America in the early 1840s, so that they could more personally serve Joesph Smith.
Mormon religious leader, Mitt Romney speaking of his Mormon family:
“””My position has been the same throughout my political career, and it goes back to the days of 1970, he said. There was a woman who was running for political office, U.S. Senate. She took a very bold and courageous stand in 1970, and that was in a conservative state. That was that a woman should have the right to make her own choice as to whether or not to have an abortion. Her name was Lenore Romney, she was my mom. Even though she lost, she established a record of courage in that regard.”””
