Even before Democrat Terry McAuliffe narrowly defeated Republican Ken Cuccinelli in the Virginia governor’s race, lobbyists representing the business community were rethinking their relationship with the GOP and planning to challenge conservative incumbents in next year’s primaries.
Their goal: to replace principled conservatives with candidates who will be more protective of Big Business interests. As U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Tom Donohue put it, his group will get involved in primary races to produce a “more governable Republican party.”
Which is why the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which says it’s strictly in “the wins business,” is threatening more electoral intervention. “There’s no rules,” NRSC executive director Rob Collins said. “The path to getting a general election candidate who can win is the only thing we care about.”
This shift will certainly surprise those who naively believed that the grassroots Tea Party movement was a creation of big business. But “Tea Party as Wall Street front group” has been a popular belief among the left for years.
When the Tea Party first emerged in 2009, the phenomenon so dumbfounded liberals that the only explanation they could fathom was conspiratorial -- these groups must have been bought and paid for by evil capitalists. “It’s not really a grassroots movement,” proclaimed then Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. “It’s Astroturf by some of the wealthiest people in America to keep the focus on tax cuts for the rich instead of for the great middle class.”
In the real world, however, entrenched corporate elites have always viewed conservatives with some trepidation. Now their lobbyists are readying for war against those who promote principles like limited government, free enterprise, and individual liberty. And liberals are cheering them on...

The Republicans cannot win without the Conservatives. They are not a small slice of the part but more like the size of the faction that supported Bob Taft against Ike in 1952.

The lobbyists are like Rove. They think everything here is a matter of money. So they let Rove blow through money like the designers of the Obamacare website.
So tell the big business donors they'll be punished for not supporting Tea Party candidates. Problem solved.

This is it in a nutshell.
By catering to big business they are catering to ~ 5% of the vote. They think they can fool enough voters to get by or that we have no other choices because the Dems are so bad.
They are mistaken.

It took me 15 years to figure out that she meant that literally.

This is an interesting thought and seems especially pertinent in Tennessee where there is an intense effort to replace Lamar Alexander with a strong conservative. Bob Corker and Bill Haslem both represent and were perhaps picked by the Tennessee business moneyed interests. If there is a strong business interest from the organizational top through the individual business PACs it does not bode well for the conservative.

You’d think they’d have figured out that not supporting a TEA Party-supportable candidate hasn’t exactly worked out well for them.

I am now hearing it is not a fund raiser - rather a workforce development forum.
Do not support any business that uses the “Chamber Of Commerce” business model which is minimum wage or illegal immigrant labor. Cook your own meals, mow your own grass and clean your own hose. It is good exercise and saves you big money. Screw those k - Street ass clowns.

The “victory” by the democrat in this race was small. Small enough that the GOP candidate would have won, had the party not withdrawn its support.
The party is acting exactly backwards.
Bring back AMERICAN jobs. Bring back Republican votes.
