How Obamacare will change employer-provided insurance (Can't keep your plan or doctor)
cbs ^ | 11/7/2013 | By STEPHANIE CONDON

Millions of Americans are being informed they're being dropped from their insurance plans because the plans don't meet minimum Obamacare standards, but President Obama so far has stood by his promise that "if you have insurance that you like, then you will be able to keep that insurance."

Insurance plans that existed on the individual market before the passage of the Affordable Care Act were "grandfathered" in, the president and his supporters have argued, and consumers only lost coverage if insurers altered those policies after the law took effect. In that case, Mr. Obama said last week, insurers had to "replace them with quality, comprehensive coverage."

In any event, the administration argues, the promise still applies to the vast majority of people.

"If you're one of the 80 percent of Americans who is insured or covered through an employer plan or through Medicare or Medicaid, or the Veterans' Administration, there is no change for you except for an increase in benefits that everyone receives as a result of the Affordable Care Act," White House spokesman Jay Carney said Tuesday.

Yet in the years to come, some workers with employer-provided benefits will see their benefits scaled back because of an Obamacare tax. T

I have to buy a car with seat belts and air bags and pay the extra cost. Is that the fault of the car companies? Or the fault of the government that requires this?

The article is wrong (mostly) with regards to the REAL impact of the employer mandate.

Right now large companies (1000+ employees) spend from $3K to $6K a year on each employee. The employee pays about the same (broadly speaking) in deductions from their paychecks. If you are the CEO of a company and you can pay your employee an extra bit of money, cancel the benefits, pay the fine and put an extra $3K per employee in the bank for the company, what would you do? Now also consider that most of these CEOs have their compensation tied to stock prices and the opinions of the investors.

A lot of companies are going to cancel their benefits and send their entire workforce to Obamacare. And that was the idea and intent of the law all along. The article didn’t say much about that.

Amazing how 0bama lied to Congress about this for years on end and no one in his administration corrected him. Oh wait, they surely did correct him but he chose to LIE anyway, which makes it 'egregious' lies.

This is a slam dunk case for impeachment. This law affects every American in one way or another and it's all based on a lie. Had Obama told the truth, Obamacare probably would not have survived and Romney would've won the election. This is an epic lie that with devastating consequences for millions of people.

IMPEACH!

Actually, she’s not a liar.

Obama HAS stood by his promise. At least in the sense that he refuses to admit that he lied and continues to claim he was speaking the truth. Despite the fact that everyone other than his most extreme supporters and the NYT editorial board (but I repeat myself) knows he was lying through his teeth.

She did do a really bad job of wording her piece, tho.

What CBS is deliberately not reporting is that many are losing their insurance because THEY DID NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE LAW. Thus, He promised they wouldn’t lose their Health insurance KNOWING THE LAW WOULD STRIP MANY OF THEM OF IT.

OBAMA WOULD'VE LOST THE 2012 ELECTION, IF:

1) He told the TRUTH about Obamacare causing people's loss of plans and doctors

2) He told the TRUTH that Benghazi was a terrorist attack and he did NOTHING to stop Americans from being murdered there

3) (IF) the NSA hadn't suppressed the Republican vote by denying and stonewalling Tea Party applications for 'tax exempt status'

4) (IF) the DOJ hadn't spied on Fox News to get intelligence on Republican strategies for the 2012 election. This undermined Romney's game plan to win.

..and that's just a few.

You think congress didn't know?

If your democrat senator or congressman claimed to have read the bill, or claimed to know what was in the bill, then they knew that people would be losing their coverage and that Obama was lying. Yet, no democrats publicly stated that Obama was lying.

Call them on it. Make it public. Let's shed some democrats from the senate and congress in 2014.

A lot of companies are going to cancel their benefits and send their entire workforce to Obamacare. And that was the idea and intent of the law all along.

I've said this elsewhere, that I think such a plan will backfire against employers. If an employee under such health plans gets sick today, they can go the appropriate level of healthcare, receive treatment, and be back in the office within a day or two. Sickness and time out of office is an understandable occurrence, but most businesses get their employees back in the office within a day or two.

Fast forward with the uncertainties related to Obamacare. A patient with bronchial or flu-like symptoms might need several days (or longer, who knows?) just to find a doctor. The patient's symptoms may have improved, or there's a fair chance they may have gotten worse. Bottom line: a routine illness keeps an employee out of office twice as long. Multiply that across an entire workforce at any given time, and you have enough people out to slow the business down, or even stop it completely.

Obamacare: bad for individuals, bad for business, and bad for the US.

If I am understanding you correctly, you are assuming that employers are going to consider the cost to the company of employees health in terms of production. I'm not saying companies don't care about their employees, most do care vary much. Their employees are the root of their success. But I've been in the business plan meetings at different sized companies. I've been part of discussions about how to change the business plan to meet new legal regulations and what it will cost. We've talked about the hard things like, how to retain employees and cut their pay and benefits for the good of the company (including my own). I have never seen, nor would I expect there to be discussion about whether a government regulation is going to affect how long employees would be sick and the lost cost of production or service.

I would expect this to get discarded as speculative conjecture and assumption.

Just my thoughts.

That is exactly what Walgreens has already done. They tend to be ahead of the curve, almost as if they have insider government info. Its why I believe the law will remain as is and continue to be implemented no matter how bad the backlash is poitically. Big Money is already deeply invested in it.
