KEYE TV has learned city council is considering a resolution that -- if passed -- would "restrict fast-food food restaurants from locating near areas that children frequent."
That includes schools, municipal parks, child care centers and libraries...
Convenience stores are also being targeted. The plan would offer food marts incentives to carry healthy food options.

....but kids frequent fast food places.......

Houston’s mayoral race and city council races were nothing to sneeze at. Naked Communists and more were on the ballot. With such low voter turnout and zero GOP activity, a few hands could make Houston’s officeholders look like those in Berkley or Austin.

Maybe Nanny Bloomberg will carpetbag to Austin to fight gun rights in Texas.
To: bgill
And after the fast food and convenient stores are banished - and the kids are STILL FAT - then what?
Idiots!

As if the children are the ones buying it for themselves. How about instead, you ban the use of Food Stamps/WIC/SNAP at these installations. Bet you’d see a bigger drop in childhood obesity with that.

It is amazing that the economy here is doing so well. The downside here is the tech economy and Austin City Council’s stupid ideas are attracting busloads of hipsters and eco nuts from California, Mass, NY, and other blue havens.

If the regulations are too narrow, then there will be opportunities to skirt around the rules. If they are too strict then black marketeers will fill the niche. Either way, there is bound to be all kinds of unintended consequences with such a stupid idea.

VA’s next; TX is down the line, later on. Count on it.

Simple solution for McDonald's: create the "McBean Burger" with a gluten-free bun.
Don't laugh...I love the Chipotle bean burgers sold at Costco. They have the size and texture of a regular 4 oz hamburger patty.
My 11YO son likes them, too.
