For consumers whose health premiums will go up under new law, sticker shock leads to anger
Washington Post ^ | 11/3/2013 | By Ariana Eunjung Cha and Lena H. Sun

Americans who face higher insurance costs under President Obama’s health-care law are angrily complaining about “sticker shock,” threatening to become a new political force opposing the law even as the White House struggles to convince other consumers that they will benefit from it.

The growing backlash involves people whose plans are being discontinued because the policies don’t meet the law’s more-stringent standards. They’re finding that many alternative policies come with higher premiums and deductibles.

After receiving a letter from her insurer that her plan was being discontinued, Deborah Persico, a 58-year-old lawyer in the District, found a comparable plan on the city’s new health insurance exchange. But her monthly premium, now $297, would be $165 higher, and her maximum out-of-pocket costs would double.

That means she could end up paying at least $5,000 more a year than she does now. “That’s just not fair,” said Persico, who represents indigent criminal defendants. “This is ridiculous.”

So far we’ve managed to hold on to employer provided insurance, but it’s apparently going up 25% next year. Could be worse I guess.

Obamacare is a Hate Crime against America and is working exactly as the Democrats planned. Democrats are helping Obama destroy the nation he despises.

“PEOPLE GET WHAT THEY DESERVE.”

Understatement of the year. Can’t wait to see how the Jews in NYC fare in about 10 months.

Unfortunately, those of us who tried to warn others are also getting whacked by this debacle of an unconstitutional law. We don’t deserve this. I think those who vote for zero should be the only ones to have to abide by the law.

The Obama administration lied through their teeth to get this bill passed and the Dems in the Senate and House bit on his lies or were part them. This is simple fact.

Today, I am convinced that Obama is going to hold on hard for the next three years....no matter what carnage is wrought on the Democratic Party...or more importantly on the country. Obamacare is his ‘achievement.’ Period!! There will be no compromise, no delay, no fixing, no anything.

Today was a good window into Obama’s political plans for the next three years: hunker down with his most fervent supporters (8th grade drop-outs, the unmotivated, the unaccomplished, the unsuccessful, the angry, the aggrieved, the guilty white people, and the victim class) for the next three years and ride out the political sh-t storm he’s created.

Neither low poll numbers, angry democratic senators, mocking comedians, huge deficits, broken websites, nor angry Americans will move President Obama on this stance. Period.

The only thing that could possibly bring change to this law is a veto proof majority from both houses demanding change. But Obama probably has something on enough of the folks in congress (remember the NSA stuff is in his hands), so that is not even that likely to happen even if the public demands that it happen. In short, we are owned!!

So, absent an unlikely act of congress, it’s full speed ahead with Obamacare.....poll numbers, public opinion, and medical dissaster be damned. Get used to it. It’s our fate for the next three years. Period!!!

“The Republican establishment is the best friend he’s got.”

That’s quite obvious. And this is where ‘working within the party’ got us.

All complaints will be forwarded to the ministry of thought. Until then, all complaints will be considered to be racist.

Who could have possibly thought it was a good idea for the fed to take on national health care?

Is there anything they haven’t turned into a total goatscrew of late?

The US Military used to be somewhat exempt from incompetence (no disrespect to servicemen/women; I’m an army brat) but the politics are steering a bad course now,IMHO.

“… yet she will still support Obama.”

Because the Official Reality is that the TEA Party and Insurance Companies lied to Obama, deceived him, and betrayed him for profits.

He had nothing at all to do with this failure.

The rates for this year are based on the projection that a large number of young healthy individuals will sign up. Wait until next year when rates will be readjusted based on actual performance. If sufficient young and healthy don’t elect to sign up and the customer base is mostly older and sicker individuals, rates could double or triple. Notice of rate adjustments should go out next October.
