This is a map that I pulled from the Virginia State Board of Election site showing the unofficial results of the governor's race county by county, and city by city. Red = Cuccinelli, Blue = McAuliffe.
The annotations and commentary are my own analysis of how McAuliffe managed to win this contest.
Areas of heavy concentrations of elite, er I mean morons...
But I believe the real story is those Counties (red rural) that only had 2000 votes.... too many people stayed home.... Mo
County Map...
Thank you
Never understood the GOP’s current determination to win real estate instead of voters.
The Marxists have this picture on all the counties in the USA. They waste not one dime on lost ventures. The Repubs have been out maneuvered and out gunned time after time and will continue to be smacked aside the head until they decide they no longer want to be Marxist lite. I do not expect to live that long.
So proud of my Mecklinburg County — 55.50% for Cuccinelli and 41% for McA. Not sure how McA got 41% but the GOP won, hands down.

The VA state Republicans have no one to blame but their own shortsighted scams during the Wars on Terror. They lobbied to have 450,000 primary government jobs and secondary and tertiary jobs located in the DC suburbs. Those suburbs are now permanent supermajorities for government parasites.
The huge influx of jobs in the DC suburbs over the last 12 years were the direct result of GW Bush and Congressional Republicans pushing through massive new government bureaucracies and basing them out of the DC area.
The national GOP lost a swing state forever because GOP pols from last decade were given token sums of monies in donations and other perks from the government contractors’ lobbies.
What did Ken lose by...55-60,000 votes? If that many registered Republicans stayed home (and I bet there are a lot more than 60,000) when there was a CLEAR choice; they should be ashamed of themselves. This wasn’t Obama/Romney...
The other part of this story is the spoiler Libertarian candidate Sarvis. I’m sure McAuliffe, who helped run Bill Clinton’s presidential campaigns, remembered that Clinton never won a majority of the electorate, but squeaked by after Ross Perot shaved votes from his republican opponents in both his campaigns. The fact that there was a spoiler in this race is no coincidence. I’m sure it was part of McAuliffe’s game plan.
My own county, Spotsylvania, went for Cuccinelli by a similar percentage. What’s up with Blacksburg? Are the Hokies that far gone? I always thought VA Tech leaned just a little more to the right (though I knew it was too much to hope that Blacksburg would ever be solid red).
Spotsylvania County population - 125,684 with about 30,000 votes cast yesterday. At least the ones that voted did right but too many stayed home.
Alas, Staunton, VA
Or, vet7279, the population density in those Blue regions far outweighs the population in the Red regions. Same as with a lot of other states, including Ohio.
This is clearly an argument for more, smaller states.
150 States would be better than the current model.
But what was the draw of Sarvis? Was it mostly McDonnell’s scandals? Other factors?
Washington DC really ought to be expanded to include Northern Virginia.
That’s fair enough — too many were asleep at the switch. Many people I know, too many, were convinced McAuliffe was ahead by 14pts or more, and that it was hopeless. I tried to reason with as many as I could that it was much closer, and Cuccinelli could win, but even my conservative friends were mesmerized by McAuliffe’s lying tv ad campaign. I don’t watch tv, so I wasn’t impacted by that.
Campbell County (my home) went for Cooch 70.21% to 23.40 for McAuliffe. I googled a map earlier today, and we’re the only red spot in central Virginia; we’re surrounded by pink counties.
So, we hang firm...for now.
I agree and while they’re at it include southwestern PA!
