Democrat Terry McAuliffe won the Virginia governors race on Tuesday, in a surprisingly close victory over Republican rival Ken Cuccinelli -- who was heavily outspent and trailed in the polls for much of the race. With nearly all precincts reporting, McAuliffe was ahead with just 48 percent of the vote, to Cuccinellis 45 percent. Though McAuliffe previously held a double-digit lead, exit polls showed voters opposed to the federal health care law overwhelmingly backed Cuccinelli, helping him narrow the gap on Tuesday.

Some are blaming the RNC on this for not spending enough money. I doubt it. BOTH sides spent a fortune on this race. If you want to blame a political party, blame the Libertarian party which siphoned off enough votes to give it to the Democrats. Third parties help Democrats.
Agreed. McAwful was lucky. Not so much for the next batch of democrats to stand trial at the voting booth.
Did you catch that report from The Blaze yesterday?
The Libertarian got a late gush of cash from an Obama bundler. We was set-up!
Mark Levin was pointing out last night that a lot of Chamber of Commerce RINOS in Virginia actually WANTED McAuliffe so he could raise taxes and begin spending the money on boondoggle projects (high speed rail) that would make them all rich.
I blame Christians who consistantly stay home or vote the status quo instead of voting for candidates who line up to their faith.
The silent church will be responsible for the downfall of America.
All that is required is to follow the 2 Chronicles 7:14 principal: If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
Yes I saw that. The Dems LOVE third parties and help finance them.
Agreed. Others have tried to spin it otherwise, but in this case take away the Libertarian candidate and you have a Republican win. The Dems helped fund the Libertarian candidate for a reason, and it paid off.
That being said, shame on the Virginia voters who voted for McAuliffe. You will now reap what you have sown.
Damn, this is razor close....
I still can’t believe that a SLIMY carpetbagger like McAuliffe could come into VA and capture more than a couple hundred votes, no matter how much he spent. All those transplants who came here to enjoy federal largesse, I guess.
“That being said, shame on the Virginia voters who voted for McAuliffe. You will now reap what you have sown.”
While I hold the McAuliffe voters in contempt, the sniveling trolls who threw GOP votes away on Sarvis are just as despicable.
Do they every read the "Declaration of Independence," marking the day when the world changed? Do they understand that, had the men and women of that day been "moderate" and compliant in deferring to coercive government power over their lives America would never have come to be the refuge for oppressed individuals from all over the world?
Message to Republicans:
"Posterity! you will never know how much it cost the present generation to preserve your freedom! I hope you will make a good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in Heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it." - John Adams, Letter to Abigail Adams, 1777
Republicans, you are having what may be the last chance to preserve "freedom" for future generations! Moderation in the face of arrogant, determined men and women who believe that "fundamentally changing" America from its foundations in freedom into a model based on the Old World ideas from which it separated and distinguished itself--that kind of "moderation" is just cowardice disguised.
That Virginians, living in the land of the "Author of the Declaration of Independence" (Jefferson), and "father" of the Constitution (Madison), would choose a political hack tied to the unprincipled agents of such "fundamental change," is shameful and illustrative of the degree of constitutional illiteracy which "progressive" education brought about.
Agree Scott. Ken would have won if Democrat plant Sarvis were not in the race.
“... a lot of Chamber of Commerce RINOS in Virginia actually WANTED McAuliffe so he could raise taxes and begin spending the money on boondoggle projects (high speed rail) that would make them all rich.”
It is worth remembering that it’s not only illegal immigrants and the poor who vote for their Free-Government-Sh*t allotment.
Let’s also not forget to give special thanks to Chris Christie who wouldn’t campaign for Cuccinelli and thus helped make it a lot harder to beat Hillary Clinton in 2016.
How in the world do YOU know how the all the Christians voted? Maybe they all voted for Cuccinelli and he still lost. Maybe the RNC/GOP should have told the truth about McAll-if, but NOOOO they wanted to fill their pockets with $$$$.
Spot on.
And McAuliffe won with less than 50%.
Can we change the rules so the top two candidates have a runoff if no one gets 50%?
Wrong. The RNC spent a fraction of what they spent on the previous gubernatorial election. Cuccinelli's campaign says they were on their own; in fact, the RNC pulled money from Cuccinelli and gave it to Christie.
There are numerous FR threads about it this morning.
