Bill de Blasio overwhelmingly was elected mayor here Tuesday, becoming the first Democrat to lead New York in 20 years and ushering in an era of activist liberal governance in the nation’s largest city.
In early returns Tuesday night, de Blasio was soundly defeating Republican Joe Lhota, a protégé of former mayor Rudy Giuliani.
De Blasio campaigned on a mantle of progressive change following Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg’s 12 years in office, highlighting what he saw as “a tale of two cities.” The moneyed Manhattan elite have had their mayor, he argued, and now the 46 percent of New Yorkers living at or near the poverty level need one of their own.
De Blasio’s administration will be a laboratory of sorts for modern progressivism — testing whether an anti-establishment activist can effectively manage a sprawling municipal government and lessen growing inequality between the rich and poor.

I disagree.
For everyone in NYC who wanted higher taxes and less law enforcement, enjoy what you wished for. For those who didn’t, get out while you can still sell your house for more than $1.

Over the past 10 years I’ve taken several very nice overnight trips into the city. I don’t expect to be doing that again.
Um... Bloomberg might have had an “R” next to his name, but it was for show only.
From what I’ve seen of Bill, he doesn’t need a “D” next to his name... He needs a Hammer and Sickle.
NYC’s conversion to the next Detroit will now shift into high gear.
Again, one gets the Government they deserve. If the people of New York city and Virginia wish to live as animals. that is their privilege.
New Yorkers didn’t vote for a progressive who wants to close the income gap. They voted for a 6’5” handsome blond guy who has an interracial family and has convinced people he is Italian.
NYC has an income gap because it is made up of of Wall Street and the people who service it. It’s the only city like that. We already have the highest combined tax rate in the nation (state, city, federal combined) and de Blasio is going to try to make that worse, not to mention property taxes and sales taxes.

That happened during (and because of) the War Between the States. But for that, there'd be 49 States in the Union ... and only one Virginia.
I have never read Rand, but I am more tempted to every day. I’m actually scared it might freak me out, and I’d prefer not to know how this all ends yet.

The DHS and TSA were formed as a result of NYC being attacked.
Looks like the US is ignoring that history. We have been on a leftist push for a 100 years, with a few years here and there of otherwise, but the trajectory remained the same.
NYC was attacked because it is the center of AMERICAN commerce.
To hold that against the City is sickening!
Wasn’t alive back then, but based what I have read I expect it will be. I might take some time, but watch for the problem areas continue to spread.
