(KMOV) -- The early findings of an ongoing review of the Illinois Medicaid program revealed that half the people enrolled werent even eligible.
The state insisted its not that bad but Medicaid is on the federal governments own list of programs at high risk of waste and abuse.
Now, a review of the Illinois Medicaid program confirms massive waste and fraud.
A review was ordered more than a year ago-- because of concerns about waste and abuse. So far, the state says reviewers have examined roughly 712-thousand people enrolled in Medicaid, and found that 357-thousand, or about half of them shouldn't have received benefits.
After further review, the state decided that the percentage of people who didn't qualify was actually about one out of four.
"It says that we've had a system that is dysfunctional. Once people got on the rolls, there wasn't the will or the means to get them off, said Senator Bill Haines of Alton.
A state spokesman insists that the percentage of unqualified recipients will continue to drop dramatically as the review continues because the beginning of the process focused on the people that were most likely to be unqualified for those benefits. But regardless of how it ends, critics say it's proof that Illinois has done a poor job of protecting tax payers money.
Illinois one of the most miss-managed states in country-- lists of reasons-- findings shouldn't surprise anyone, said Ted Dabrowski.
Dabrowski, a Vice-President of The Illinois Policy Institute think tank, spoke with News 4 via SKYPE. He said the Medicaid review found two out of three people recipients either got the wrong benefits, or didn't deserve any at all.
We added so many people to medicaid rolls so quickly, we've lost control of who belongs there, said Dabrowski. "So, we've got to get these rolls cut to those who are qualified as they promised, said Senator Haines.
Reviewers have only examined the cases for one out of every four people receiving Medicaid in Illinois, but the state has already dropped 176,000 people from the program.
WHAT! I’m surprised ... not.
Right. Just like with EBT cards.
No matter how bad you think obamacare is,
it is far worse.
This is a nightmare for the rats that will last far beyond 2016.
There is absolutely nothing they can do about this.
Each week will reveal a new disaster...
pass the popcorn.
“This is a nightmare for the rats that will last far beyond 2016”
I see it as exactly the opposite. I view as it as a total victory for the ‘rats. The VA election tonight proves that the electorate is in pure emulation mode: It cannot wait to take part in the cronyism and “gotta get mine” mentality of Congress, and they are so stupid they don’t even see that it’s all lies and they’ll get nothing. Or less than nothing. Will they get angry? Oh sure. Will they change their vote to a milder version of the handoutcrats? No way. Out of that anger what will they demand? More laws, more restrictions on freedoms. And they will get them. Freedom is gone for you and me, my FRiend. It’s reserved for illegals and those who vote correctly from here on out. We got three more years of 0bama. But we probably have deepening progressivism for the next fifty years.
I will agree with you
when i see two months of positive stories on obamacare.
That has zero chance of happening.
It isn’t just the website or the cancellations, there is a lot more really really terrible news coming.
Ping.
Yep. I said on an earlier thread that with all the bad news for Dems lately that election should have been a Republican landslide. To me it just proves that FreeRepublic is preaching to the choir and we have lost the war.
Dems spent millions on a fake Libertarian that got 160K votes, Cuccinelli lost by 20K.
BUT Illinois is focusing on their priorities, they passed the Equality in Marriage Act today! Grrrrrrrr
This is not a suprise. Fraud is rampant in most government programs, and Illinois has a particularly fraudulent bunch of politicians and supporters in Cook County.
I don’t care what they spent. Ads should not have outweighed the news about Dems, Obama, and Obamacare. More people agree with the Dems. We’ve lost.
It was only a matter of time til the Democrats bought off the majority of the population. They have succeeded.
Beyond stupid. I still think that “commodities” works out better. You know, like peanut butter, cheese, milk, beans, oatmeal etc. Even then, you have to wonder what they are thinking sometimes.
I noticed at our local walmart that the instant oatmeal is wic approved, but the big boxes of Quick Oats is not. It would be cheaper to use the quick oats.
KC’s people should have vetted Sarvis long ago and exposed him. He is the AG of the state and has resources for investigations. It truly would have made a difference in this race. I feel sick at heart that TM won by such a slim margin - it didn’t have to happen. Too little too late - yet KC didn’t get blown away like everyone predicted. I feel sad for the residents of VA who didn’t vote for TM. To the rest I say - whatever happens to you because of this election - you deserve it!!
And how much did the RNC spend on Cuccinelli? They wanted him to lose as much ass the Dims. A house divided against itself.
Northern Virginia has become populated with federal workers. That and the sold phalanx of the black votes puts the Republicans at a disadvantage, and Cuccinelli is anything but a compelling figure.
Plenty of purists around here have made it plain Libertarians aren’t wanted.
Spoiler alert!
...and since no one got fifty percent, are there any other reasons for a run off election?
