New gun rules for Neighborhood Watch in Sanford, Fla. about race, politics not saving lives
Fox News ^ | November 5, 2013 | John Lott

When lives are on the line, what saves lives -- not politics – should guide policy.

Gun control advocates used to warn about blood in the streets if we didn’t tighten gun laws, but as concealed handgun permits in the U.S. have doubled from 2007 to now, murder rates have fallen by 18 percent.

Enter a new strategy: playing the race card, along with claims that allowing people to defend themselves means that whites will hurt blacks. But this strategy ignores the crucial fact that blacks kill over 91 percent of blacks and that whites kill 84 percent of whites.

Unfortunately, many politicians – from Sanford, Florida to the U.S. Senate – are following a divisive race based strategy.

Tuesday, George Zimmerman’s hometown, Sanford, Florida, is instituting two changes to its Neighborhood Watch program. . . . .

Don’t “join” anything, and you won’t be constrained.

Just DO the damn job!

Hard-working people defending themselves, their family and their property. That’s politically incorrect, and the liberals will do everything they can to put a stop to it.

What a poorly written article.

...the crucial fact that blacks kill over 91 percent of blacks and that whites kill 84 percent of whites?

If that were true, the populations of both races would be diminishing at truly alarming rates.

I wish the ability to write clearly was still a requirement for those seeking jobs as journalists.

From the article:

"Enter a new strategy: playing the race card, along with claims that allowing people to defend themselves means that whites will hurt blacks.

I have seen some strange holophobic claims, but this one tops them all.

Absolutely right.
We have to remember, NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED. However, with these new rule, how does Sanford, Florida get anyone to volunteer for a neighborhood watch. A neighborhood watch for God's sake.

It’s simple:

Don’t volunteer for or join Neighborhood Watch programs. Tell them to stuff it.

That way you will still be able to carry and keep you and your neighborhood safe.

Right, statistics show that blacks really don’t kill white people so go ahead and walk your lily white a** down MLK blvd at 12:00 at night completely unarmed. You’ll be perfectly safe.

The night watch always needs to be armed.

Photobucket is down so I can't load Rembrandt's Night Watch.

Or if you do, just sit in your window with binoculars. Do not go out and confront anyone. If you see something, call the cops:
"A suspicious person is prowling the area. If he was white I could describe him to you but don't want to appear racist so I can't."

Residents who are members of the watch will no longer be "allowed" [quotes mine] to carry a permitted concealed handgun with them nor will they be able to follow someone they deem suspicious.

Yeah, but that's the "official", "sanctioned", Neighborhood Watch, which smells suspiciously like asking your employees' permission to do legal things to begin with. CCW is still legal, walking around is still legal, calling 911 on your cell is still legal, so just do what you were going to do anyway, and don't ask permission. If they claim they have the rights to the name "Neighborhood Watch", call it something else. Can't imagine why anyone ever bothered with that in the first place.
