Is 80% black Detroit set to elect first white mayor since 1974? (even the NBPP support him!)

As the beleaguered Motor City searches for help out of its deep economic holes, voters seem prepared to shake things up Tuesday by electing the first white mayor in 40 years.

Former healthcare executive Mike Duggan, 55, is known for pulling Detroit's hospital system from the brink of bankruptcy and the 82 percent black city is poised to choose him over their history of choosing a mayor who looks like they do. If Duggan beats his African-American opponent, Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon, it will be a first since Coleman Young set a new precedent as the city's first black mayor in 1974.

And the win appears likely. A poll released last week showed Napoleon lagging well behind Duggan, who also holds an almost 3-to-1 fundraising and spending edge.

Wow. I heard a debate between these two on C-SPAN radio a couple of weeks ago, and the best choice was clear, but I'm amazed that voters appear poised to make that choice. Read what the New Black Panthers say about supporting the white guy!!

As the saying goes, there are no atheists in foxholes. Even prejudicial blacks will vote white when they have run out of viable options.

This is amazing. So the white guy is now a “white brother” to the Black Panthers? Interesting.

Duggan is a sleazeball but that's to be expected of Detroit democrats.

What this really indicates is that the secretary of state has her boot on the neck of the Detroit election system. After all, the locals originally stripped Duggan of 40% of his votes and the state made them count them.

There are a lot of things going on in Detroit that you really have to be paying attention to notice. Things like Kwame Kenyatta basically being ignored till he left office and ran off to Mobile Alabama because his black nationalism is getting old. Malik Shabazz (The Detroit edition) called for volunteers to help clean up neighborhoods and only white folks appeared and then the city screwed him over. There is also the growing Chaldean, Marronite, Copt population.

I would think that being mayor of Detroir is like being governor of California. Given the financail headaches and the legislature/city council you have to deal with then who would want the job?

LOL You have no idea. This summer in Detroit I met an old man carrying a bag of groceries with an AR-15 slung across his back. When police slowed down to take a look, they weren't checking out the old guy with the gun, they were checking out the white guy without one.

When racism fails and the cupboard is empty it’s time to ask Whitey to come in and straighten things out.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Jackson and Sharpton must be en route to detroit right now to prevent such a travesty.

This is the embodiment of the great line in “Risky Business” where “Guido the killer pimp” (played by Joe Pantoliano) tells “Joel” (Tom Cruise), “Never f@@k with another man’s livelihood.” Obama is finally starting to “f@#k with his supporters livelihoods.”
