Last night, working from an article in Politico called Obamacare losers could pack political punch, I wrote about the political backlash that likely will stem from millions of people losing their privately purchased health insurance plans thanks to Obamacare. Today, the Washington Post has a front page article on the same subject.
The Politico piece is more informative because it presents survey data about those who purchase their own health insurance. But the Post article points to a huge looming problem with Obamacare the fact that millions will not only lose their insurance, but may very well lose their doctor[s] too.
This fact isnt mentioned until near the end of the article, when we read about Marlys Dietrich, an Obama-supporting artist from San Antonio. Dietrich initially was delighted that Obamacare would provide coverage for her artsy friends. But that before she found out what Obamacare would do to her:
Her insurer, Humana, informed her that her plan was being canceled and that the rate for herself and her 21-year-old son for a plan compliant with the new law would rise from $300 to $705. On the federal Web site, she found a comparable plan for $623 a month. Because her annual income is about $80,000, she doesnt qualify for subsidies.
A cheaper alternative on the federal exchange, she said, had a premium of $490 a month but it was an HMO plan rather than the PPO plan she currently has. I wouldnt be able to go to the doctor Ive been going to for years, she said. That is not a deal.
And both the HMO and PPO exchange plans she examined had family deductibles of $12,700, compared with her current $7,000.
Think about it. Dietrich cannot keep her insurance plan, as the president promised she could. And she cannot keep her doctor unless she pays twice as much for insurance as she pays now.
In fact, even if she goes into a plan in which she cant keep her doctor, she will stay pay around 65 percent more than she currently does. Finally, the family deductible will be almost twice as much as before.
This isnt sticker shock; its pillage and plunder.
Dietrichs story is typical of reports from around the country. In a more dramatic case, Edie Littlefield Sunby, a cancer patient, is being forced to give up doctors that have kept helped keep her alive.
As word of these developments spreads, the political backlash against Obamacare may become astonishing to behold.
Far from giving a damn about the plight of people like Ms. Dietrich, I blame them for the plight we're all in because they gave us the Calamity in Washington
My husband’s premium went up 300%!! There are MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS of these stories......and thee will be MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS of LAZY TAKERS that will pay NOTHING!
In the long-run....the deductible shock will linger. More folks will charge it to their credit card, skip summer vacations, keep their seven-year old car for another season, delete HBO off their cable bill, and try hard to avoid seeing the doctor until the toe is green (or blue).
A business entrepreneur would seize on this mess...sign up a couple of Chinese doctors to “vacation” in the US and see patients for cash for a month or two, from those without health insurance (there will be millions more than usual).
“Marlys Dietrich, an Obama-supporting artist”
Hey dumb**s, it’s what you VOTED FOR, stooped!!
HOPEY-CHANGEY!!!
“Far from giving a damn about the plight of people like Ms. Dietrich, I blame them for the plight we’re all in because they gave us the Calamity in Washington.”
You might want to rethink that a bit. Hell hath no fury like a former true believer who suddenly sees that their socialist messiahs are false. For example: Lucianne Goldberg, Ronald Reagan.
This is what CHANGE looks like. HOPE you can afford it.
At least you can take some heart from this. These lazy takers who will pay nothing are going to find out their premium subsidy will appear as a tax credit the following year. At least this year if they sign up they are going to find out that the EITC check or EBT cash they get is gonna have to go for the first year....they’re gonna LOVE that.
I predict after the beginning of next year and escalating from there, we will see european style rioting over the healthcare situation and crippling taxes, along with numerous stories of people being found dead in their homes from things like lack of insulin and similar otherwise easily treated medical conditions.

This was intended for another article, sorry folks...
Really? I thought that was a perfect description of the Obamacare rollout strategy.
I get insurance through my employer and jointly pay $1500 a month in premiums. That’s a lot but it covered in patient hospitalization 100%
Thanks to the demented communist and the parasites that voted for him
we now are on the hook for $6000 coinsurance for hospitalization on top of the 18 grand in premiums
All or most of the disposable income for millions of Americans who get insurance through their employer has been wiped out.
Nobody is even talking about this yet
The commies had better start making plans to run for the tall grass
I think I read in election result numbers that only about 25-percent of the total population actually voted for comrade obama and somewhat fewer for Romney. I think a whole lot of that non-voting percentage is getting a painful eduction in what that expression, “elections have consequences” really means.
We have obviously have two different mindsets in America, those that will believe a salesman ( right brain ) and those of us who want the Details ( left brain Analytical, aka Freepers ). We saw the details, and like a good engineer, we saw this design would fail.
Both are ok with a fungible transaction, the likes of this supporter could buy a candy bar and toss it in the trash if they don't like it. The problem with 0hbhamayokaire is that it is not fungible, their is no options, you are locked into a paradigm without our consent.
My guess is the next thing this supporter will buy is the lie of Single-Payer.
I swear their are days I think as a nation we are doomed.
BTW if her artsy friends had any critical thinking joining a guild, the BBB or talking to an Insurance agent, individual policies were potentially at their fingertips and they didn't even know it including HSA's. Perhaps the lack of education in investments and insurance @ the high school level while focusing on such things as putting a rapper on a banana is the cause of that...
Thanks, maybe so but it was intended for the Islamic school textbook article. If it suits Obamacare, then fine.
As they say elections have consequences. Being an Obama supporter she is probably in the process of looking for someone to blame.
Believeing in false prophets again I see?
