AUSTIN Nadia Bolz-Weber bounds into the University United Methodist Church sanctuary like a superhero from Planet Alternative Christian. Her 6-foot-1 frame is plastered with tattoos, her arms are sculpted by competitive weightlifting and, to show it all off, this pastor is wearing a tight tank top and jeans.
Looking out at the hundreds of people crowded into the pews to hear her present the gospel of Jesus Christ, she sees: Dockers and blazers. Sensible shoes. Grandmothers and soccer moms. Nary a facial piercing.
To Bolz-Webers bafflement, this is now her congregation: mainstream America.
These are the people who put her memoir near the top of the New York Times bestseller list the week it came out in September. They are the ones who follow her every tweet and Facebook post by the thousands, and who have made the Lutheran minister a budding star for the liberal Christian set.

Your parents thought that getting having an alcoholic, drug-addicted, promiscuous, foul-mouthed person talk to you about God is no a good idea. Your parents would be right, however . . . .
She’s married with two kids, to another Lutheran pastor, a man named Matthew.
She HAS repented from all of that, but she’s also smart enough to know she will ALWAYS be an alcoholic, and a drug addict.
Again, if you watch her presentation to the ELCA youth summit, it’s been 20 years since she’s had a drink.
It doesn’t make her an ex-alcoholic. Once you are an addict, you are ALWAYS an addict, no matter how long its been since you’ve had a drink, or a fix.
We tend to trust Paul, though he killed a bunch of people. We trust Solomon, who wrote most of the Psalms.
You would think Christians, of all people, would understand the dangers of attacking other Christians without all the facts. In fact, judging anybody at all, you’d think would be something ESPECIALLY Christians would at least have some sort of reservation aforethought.
This is the think that disaffects looking for a place in God’s Kingdom, and not finding it.
Christians THINK they are perfect, but they are only saved.
I trust Jesus.
I don’t place my faith or trust in anyone else.
Per the article: Her encounter with a tall, cute, Lutheran seminary student named Matthew Weber brought her back to church. They married in 1996 and have two children.
Everything you know about Jesus was passed down by a tax collector, a bunch of fishermen, and a guy that used to kill Christians for a living.
God works through broken people. This is the point.
We have better documented evidence, from better qualified people, from better, more unimpeachable backgrounds and family situations, on the existence of alien spacecraft piloted by unknown biological entities.
Yet we believe these flawed people, and the words they’ve passed down about Jesus. I know I do.
I’m absolutely positive I don’t agree with this pastor about much outside of God and Christ, but I’m also positive she’s going to help bring the sick and the lame to Christ in ways that I couldn’t.
In that, I see God’s hand, and marvel.

Yes, but how many people has she driven to drink in the past 20 years?
If I had to sit through a lecture from her about why my tax money is well spent on the SNAP program, I’d like be driven to drink as well.
For the record, she’s not said as much, though the ELCA’s entire social justice plank will make a billy goat puke.
In a word: YUCK !
Congragulatory puff piece written by a Michelle BOORSTEIN?
An authority on Christianity where?
Geez
Its like when they make atheist heads of divinity schools....and they do
Why don’t I just claim to be a Talmudic scholar.....Kabbalah is so yesterday anyhow you know....
This dyke preacher is not preaching Christ’s gospel
Gotta be pretty vigilant about the church you pick...
She and Father Pfleger need to hook up...... Maybe Sharpton, Jackson, and Osteen too.....
An idol.
A false teacher.
For the social left.
That’s what she is.
