Nearly 26,000 New Mexicans are having health plans terminated at the end of the year because the insurance policies fail to provide expanded benefits and other coverage mandated by a federal health care law, according to insurance industry officials.
State Insurance Superintendent John Franchini estimates most of those individual policyholders will pay an average of 35 percent more for new coverage, but will have plans with more health care benefits.

Good old Barry from the AP sure made sure to say (2x) that these new Mexicans will now get better Ins. Sure they will Barry sure they will. Bad Apple reporting BARRY
The masses aren’t capable of making their own choices - WE know what’s best for them
Oh, people from New Mexico, not “new Mexicans.”
Biased reporting. The writer clearly strives to couch the policy cancellations as necessary and good.
“Talking points” have circulated rapidly. Notice no-one brings up deductibles, out of pocket and co-pays. THAT is the issue. None of these new and improved plans will really cover anything short of $12,000 out of YOUR pocket! Oh, AND the new and improved cost of the Policies!
He does not mention that if this private insurance is not ACA compliant, the insured will get the penalty. It is likely that these cheap plans for the discriminating consumer will go the way of the Dodo bird.
Years ago, when I was single, I worked for a small company. I had insurance but, my deductible was something like $3000 then insurance would pay something like 75-80%. I had to have surgery and it broke me financially, taking me years to pay it off. I eventually left the company for a better opportunity with better benefits.
I cannot even begin to understand how a family today can cut any more from their budget and pay deductibles that are in the thousands of dollars along with increasing premiums.
This law was never about better health benefits for Americans. This was about the destruction of America and Americans.
Justice Roberts, may you burn in hell.
If this tyranny masquerading as “law of the land” (a “law of the land” from which powerful favored individuals, organizations and even entire states like NEVADA are EXEMPT) is allowed to stand I can foresee a society where entire swath of “middle class” is forced to pay higher taxes(”fines”) because it cannot afford Obama-directed insurance plans.
Then has to buy concierge medical services or form coops as best it can to cover medical needs.
It will definitely change America and make the middle class poorer and vulnerable to life changing medical situations
and don’t forget child wellness checks, gyn birth control and abortions,, and pediatric dental insurance
How did you live without such important coverages under your previous substandard plan, peasant? Don’t you appreciate the masters are watching out for YOU?
Now, back away slowly from that Big Gulp...and eat your peas
sarc
No. You have to PAY for the maternity care of other women - including illegal alien invaders.
Any senate seat up in 14?
Every doctor in the country should “diagnose” everyone of their male patients as pregnant. File a bunch of charges then after 8 months announce their diagnoses must have been wrong.
Any senate seat up in 14?
And don’t forget all the women who will now have coverage for annual prostate exams!
Another Obama worshiping state moaning, now that they’ve voted him another term. Absolutely NO sympathy for those so stupid as to think they could ride on the wheezing Treasury gravy train the rest of their lives.
The Evil Rich can live anywhere in the world and will leave the US when they refuse to pay more than the current 90% of the tab. That will leave the decimated Middle Class and the Gullible Poor to wonder what happened to the promises the lying politicians made.
Amen M’am!
Heh, Good one.
Although, Sadly , Our "new Mexicans" will get their insurance 'free', thanks to those people who are paying 35% more (and sky high deductibles).
