The National Republican Senatorial Committee is punishing a Republican advertising firm for its work with the Senate Conservatives Fund, a conservative group that has fostered controversy within the Republican Party by challenging some GOP incumbents.
The firm Jamestown Associates has worked for the SCF on many of its attack ads and will no longer receive business from the NRSC as a result, the committee confirmed Friday.
The move marks the opening salvo in a power struggle that has been brewing behind the scenes between the national Republican establishment and the SCF, which was founded by then-Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina. The group has been especially gung-ho in targeting Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who faces a competitive re-election bid in 2014.
"For too long, the SCF has been a bully," said NRSC spokesperson Brad Dayspring. "They claim purity and walk around with their nose held higher than everyone else. It's all fake. It's an act. It's time to stand up to the bully instead of running away."
"We are not going to do business with groups or operatives that make disingenuous promises, mislead conservatives or attack Republicans simply to line their own pockets," Dayspring added. "Period."
The SCF dismissed the NRSC's decisions as "a classic example of how Mitch McConnell operates."
"Rather than inspiring people to support something larger than himself, he uses threats and intimidation to destroy everyone who disagrees with him," said SCF's Executive Director Matt Hoskins. "This isnt what leaders do. It's what bullies do."
"Fortunately, the grassroots in this country are not afraid of Mitch McConnell and his gang of K Street lobbyists," Hoskins added. "He doesn't represent their values and they're ready to fight for something better."
The SCF has devoted hundreds of thousands of dollars so far this year to targeting McConnell in favor of another Republican candidate, businessman Matt Bevin but its broader national strategy is to turn the Senate more conservative by engaging in open races for safely Republican seats.
In an election cycle when national Republicans are laser-focused on what they consider their best chance to retake control of the Senate, that strategy has profoundly irked many operatives and strategists within the party while energizing a competing base of conservative donors and activists.

Pot, meet kettle. Really, I had to double check to make sure this wasn't satire.
Actually I think the first move was very clearly made by Karl Rove and the establishment Republicans when he set up a 501(c)(3) to monopolize Republican sources of contributions and divert those monies to Rinos in favor with the establishment.
It looks like the establishment is going to force this fight which they think they can control. They do not understand that if they win they destroy the Republican Party because the base will surely decamp. If they lose their are liable to lose the next election because they will have torn the party asunder.
Either way they risk the party and they certainly risk the next election.
The GOOBer RINOs better “compromise” with their base the way they “compromised” with their ‘RAT comrades or they are all going to find themselves looking for a new line of work.
I will contribute to those who have conservative values and agendas,,,,Scre you NRSC and Rance and all the other elites. They can pound sand
That’s not where the elites have their nose.
Does any party survive attacking it's own base?
The attacks by the Rockefeller wing of the GOP on Reagan and Goldwater proved that as long as they, the rich elitist controlled the part leadership they were willing to withhold funds, advertising and local support from the vocal mavericks rising to national recognition. They knew then and know now that the quiet deals they cut with the Dems will in no way affected their private fortunes nor the movement of the country in concert with the progressives (read Red)
The 1964 Electoral map shows the consequences of Nelson et al behind the curtain actions.
It could well be argued that Johnson benefited from the killing of JFK but the GOP put up no fight.
It appears it is time for me to pony up another donation...
Republicans with their noses in the air are called GOPES GOP Elite Snobs
My guess McConnell will be out on his face in 2014 unless 0 has his contacts who rigged the 2012 electronic voting results intervene for him...
This makes all the more mandatory our support of the Senate Conservatives Fund and our eager effort to rid the Senate of Mushball McConnell, John Cornyn, Light Loafers Graham, LAMAR!!! Alexander, Thad Cochran, Johnny Isakson, Nancyboy Kirk and others of their ilk.
The GOP sunk the guy in Missouri last time. Sure he may not have been the “best” candidate, but the national org should have supported him. So, the dems hold the seat for six years.
Give to the candidate, not the party.
In the electronic age, why do we need parties? Why do we need primaries?
Reagan's people were grassroots and came into the party but were not really part of it by their design and the desire of the regulars.
I politely tell Rep callers, “please take me off your call list and any list as I am no longer a Pub.” They comply.
These are the people you are supporting when you vote for Progressive Liberals like Mitt Romney or let yourself be manipulated by their “Lessor than of two evils” mantra.
You are supporting the enemy.
Preaching to the choir here
On the other hand, RINOs have failed their chance to stand up, and it's likely that on the heels of Obiecare '14 will be a perfect chance to put many/any new Republicans in the Senate. Such a purge now is the best of all worlds. A Senate loss....not so much. Is there a chance of some harmony. Kumbayah for a while longer.
War it is, then.
WAAAAYYY back in the ‘90’s, I took the mainstream rinos to task in Montgomery county, PA.
At that time, pubbies had a 3 to 1 advantage. (An aside, these bung rinos are now the MINORITY in a district they once Owned.)
I did NOT target the top dudes, I did NOT target the midlevel dudes.
I TARGETED THE POLYESTER PEOPLE ON THE VERY BOTTOM OF THE FOOD CHAIN.
One day, the committee woke up to find that EACH OF THEIR LOWEST LEVEL COMMITTEEMEN, COMMITTEEWOMEN had an electoral CHALLENGE. (Which most of them LOST, BTW.)
Just damn, you never saw fur fly so fast and furious. I was ultimately not successful for many reasons. Being outnumbered by about 1,000 to one was a good reason. However.
The road map I laid out has been used very successfully on a lesser scale.
Only problem I have with the Tea Party is that they DID NOT do due diligence. They skipped the homework and went straight to campaign mode.
BAD, BAD, VERY BAD MOVE.
Be a termite. Undermine the base, you will OWN the party.
I have; but then again, I’ve been a Republican for over 40 years.
No longer, though.
You’re gonna like that book.
“attack Republicans simply to line their own pockets,”
Yes, because these hacks never do that. Their RINO fatcats never badmouth Ted Cruz and Steve King. No.
Notice they do not answer the Senate Conservatives Fund’s charges. They accuse them of ‘claiming purity’ yet do nothing to try and prove themselves pure instead of the lying, backstabbing, whimpering squishes we all know they are.
Go ahead, losers. Attack the base. We’ll strike back twice as hard and you’ll crawl away with a bloody nose. We’re done with your RINO losers. The country cannot afford any more of your antics.
