Aviation Week's Guy Norris has an exclusive article on the successor for the Lockheed Martin SR-71 Blackbird, the legendary spy plane that may be the favorite of every airplane nerd in the world. The hypersonic SR-72 is the first aircraft that can fit perfectly in Star Wars or Galactica, a true space age ship.
Way cool looking
Loose lips sink ships...and nations
Got mine already at “Planes R US”. An early Christmas present. Also gives me the ability to carpetbomb any pesky neighbors who leave dog crap on the sidewalks.
MACH 6 should be the name of a patriotic rock band!
SR-71 Whackobird.
It's unlikely that it has a single vertical tail.
Devleoped from work on ‘hav blu’?
Nothing there but conceptual views and artist’s renditions.
Not much more than speculation.
Wow. Lots of folks have been waiting years for something like this.
I remember seeing an interview of an SR-71 pilot who was flying over Libya on a reconnaissance flight.
He said his warning lights went on showing that missiles had been fired at him. He opened it up and he said the plane just kept going faster and faster. The way he explained it made you think the plane was a living thing and just wanted to go fast and was only happy when it was.
How long before Zero has the design and production means signed over to the mullahs? And any production in the US banned?
If they’re talking about retiring this..., the the story gains credence. If they’re talking about it coming on line, it’s more or less laughable.
Lockheed doesn’t leak. We don’t know that the hell they have until they retire it. Mach 6 sounds about right, again, if you’re talking about the SR-71 replacement.
It’s replacement should be in the range of Mach 10-12.
every time I visit the Seattle Museum of Flight and see the SR71, I am always dazzled for it’s design, especially considering that was done 50 or so years ago. Radical shape still looks “today”.
The SR-71’s top speed is still classified.
Aurora?
I think you can pretty well guarantee our enemies know about anything we have.
I would like to record some hours in one of these in my pilots log book.
but is it also a submarine?
I’m afraid you’re living fifty years in the past.
The leakproof lockheed doesn’t exist anymore, neither does the loyal president or even the loyal military.
Its just slightly below the speed of thought.
Anything that needs an air breathing propulsion system cannot be called a “space vehicle” of any magnitude. If it’s breathing air, it’s still in the atmosphere!!!
