A time lapse shot of the USS Zumwalt being moved from the pier to the drydock, and then to the water.
Wow! Those are some of the fastest workers I have ever seen.
Way cool. I wish it had a cruiser designation.
Awesome. In these days of the littoral ship fiasco and F-35 cost overruns, it sure would be nice to see a cutting-edge American weapon system that works.
I have no idea why they call it a destroyer. Its role (and size) clearly makes it a cruiser.
They were told once she was in the water, the bar was open.
They’re a whole lot faster than the ones who did Yarnell’s retrofit in the late 60s. :=)
Anybody want to add this to a ‘ping’ list, feel free to do so.
I didn’t get to see the launch, but did drive by her that day on my way south to Portland.
She is one sleek looking ship.
I remember the Z Grams, let us Grow sideburns and Beards
Captain James Kirk is going to get the first command.
Seriously
Magnificent man work
Probably cool, too bad it is on facebook and I will never see it.

I still have my beard from that era.
Because congress in their wisdom deemed any future cruisers would be nuclear powered. So the Navy made a 610 foot destroyer. A Pennsylvania class battleship was 600 feet at the waterline and the Ticonderoga cruisers are 567 feet.
Zumi also got us civis when leaving ship.
Got to give up my ‘locker’ at fleet landing, Norfolk.
Same here. I don’t do facebook either. Son was in the navy - on a destroyer. Wish I could see the Zumwalt
I used to play pool in the bars on the strip, outside the main gate.

Was a Sonar Tech, served aboard USS Biddle DLG34 from 1/67 to 12/70. She was a beautiful ship:

..politically incorrect to call it a cruiser...such a term implies aggression to people with “sensitive feelings”...
/
..destroyer implies a vessel with more limited offensive punch..
/
god help us if we create a “battleship” again..

Oops! Oh well, don’t need no stinking anchor!
