Howdy everyone!!
Woo hoo!!
As I wrote to a few of you this morning, I made my escape from the hospital last night. LOL! Seriously, I just couldnt stand being cooped up any longer so went home for dinner but didnt go back. Called them at 10:00 PM (after the curfew) and told them I wanted to be discharged immediately. Twas fine by them (seeing as how I broke the rules).
Called again this morning to confirm and they told me to come pick up my things and settle the bill.
Woo hoo! Im hoooome!
Only had six more therapy sessions scheduled anyway. Didnt see any need to be cooped up in the hospital for nearly another week for that. And Im paying $148.00 per day co-pay for that (including weekend days). I think I can contract for home therapy for that.
Got to where I couldnt stand eating their bland hospital food anymore. No salt, no pepper, no fat. No taste, but bad taste. Hadnt eaten anything but ice cream, jello and milk for two days and had a terrible tummy ache and a hard knot in my belly. All that went away as soon as I got home and sent Chris out for an order of the most harmful food possible, Chinese. Ate my fill of won ton soup and pork fried rice. Mmmm... mmmm good. And thats when I made the final decision to just stay home.
Its so great to be home.
Thank God Almighty!
Free at last!
Sitting here all morning with tears of joy and gratitude streaming down my face. Slept in my own hospital bed last night, but the mattress is too soft, making it very difficult to sit up and move around. Will start looking today for a firmer mattress. Got up in the middle of the night and crawled back into my new powerchair. It has very comfortable cushions and a power recline feature. Threw a lap blanket over myself, reclined the chair and slept like a baby. Slept in late this morning. Got up and made myself a cup of coffee, (ignoring my FR duties, sorry) went out into my own back yard to enjoy the sunshine and cool morning air and offer thanks to God.
Im so happy to be home. Looking forward to the next phase of life.
Praise God!
Next Ive got to see about getting hand controls installed on my van so I can stay independent. Just cant stand thought of not being able to jump into my van and go somewhere if need be.
With much love and gratitude to you all for your support and prayers.
God bless,
Jim
I'm so glad you are doing it by yourself - running your own life.
My husband was in the hospital and ready to go home. I had all his stuff packed but the nurses had not done the paperwork. See, he was not their patient anymore, and they had washed their hands of him, it didn't matter to them when they got the paperwork done. I told him to ask for a coke, then rolled him out of room to in front of the nurses station and he told them he wanted a coke. Then, I said, do you want to serve his lunch, now? Suddenly, they were running around to get the paperwork done and we were out of there.
I have used their psychological mindset to get what I needed for my husband. I would put on my white blouse with my “Dr.” nametag on it, and take him to the emergency room when he had to go there, which was several times during his various illness (it always happens on the weekend, right?) When the receiving nurse would see that white blouse and nametag, she would take him straight to the back to a doctor. The doctor, seeing my name tag, would describe exactly what he was going to do, and I'd respond with something like, “Yes, I agree, that is the thing to do.”
I did whatever was necessary to get them to do the right thing right then.
Excellent report Jim! So wonderful to hear from you and hear you’re home eating real food! Pig out for goodness sakes! Order more chinese food! Enjoy every part of your day that you can! And keep up your health.
You’ve been prayed for every day by me and many many others.

Continue onward fellow soldier.

Good to hear it. I know what you mean about hospital food. When I was last in the hospital for a stint, I got my wife to smuggle in some salt and pepper, which I hid in the drawer.
I had to use my hole saw to access the fill spout (or whatever you call it).
And I will have to put a central spreader 'cause the frame is bending a bit.
